This is a rather weird, and probably futile question.

I'm planning a character in tangent with a friends for greyhawk ruins, so its a little wacky and sub optimal but thats pretty usual for me.

Anyway what i'm Planning is primarily a Grey Elf Warmage going into Spellwarp sniper. Now the issue comes with sneak attack pre req, and if I dip into the level of rogue to get it I'm taking an Exp hit for the rest of the characters life. And i also don't want to balance rogue and warmage levels and not get my caster level up ever.

Thus, I was wondering if anyone happened to have an idea of a PrC or something similar that might be able to get that class feature to me without the continual XP hit?

Thanks,
jstorrie

There's nothing, unfortunately–this issue comes up when trying to build Arcane Tricksters, too.

You could build a Wizard into Spellwarp Sniper; Wizards are better than Warmages, anyway. Or you could use Scout 3 / Warmage 2 to enter Unseen Seer and pick up Improved Skirmish at 6; the load of extra Skirmish dice would offset your caster level hit, though you'd have to take Arcane Disciple in a domain that granted you a first-level divination spell.

If the region is greyhawk you can opt for ecletic learning as a warmage and pick up a detect magic/evil. I think warmage gets advanced learning at L3.

I was playing around with the concept of scout warmage, but wasn't able to find anything either for a grey elf. And wasn't able to find a PrC that advanced spellcasting and granted new sneak attack damage. Are human/half-elf/halfing out as races?

I'd echo the call to make the character a human/half-elf/halfling...preference is probably for halfling on this one since small size will give them an advantage to +hit. It also most closely mirrors the Grey Elf statistics. Half-elf if you're set on being elven for flavor reasons.

The +2 Intelligence from Grey Elf isn't going to get you a whole ton of benefit.

yeah, it was greyelf for story for our craziness, but we decided to shrink ourselves to halflings, we somehow found more insanity that way

Thanks,

While the PrC sounds really nice.. it's not universally good. It's basically a crutch to help Sorcerer-based Trickster types. It lets them choose AoE spells while still being able to deliver ranged touch spells.

The warmage doesn't have that problem. You will have sufficient spells known of both types that taking the hits for this PrC are not worth the gain (if any) that you get from it.

You could potentially do a halfling rogue1/warmage5 into unseen seer, taking eclectic learning to pick up the 2nd divination needed and practiced caster to make up for the level hits. You could then time taking warmage6 so as to pick which level you want the next advanced learning to kick in. This would be viable, but not without it's costs (from lost casting, forced retraining, skill requirements, fixed advanced learning and feat cost) so it shouldn't be seen as essential or advantageous.. just potentially viable.

I think there is a PrC

Heros of battle

Dread Commando

Reqs
Dodge , Modility
Hide , 6 ranks Move Silently 6 Ranks
BAB +5

1st Level Sudden Strike; Team initative bonus

at the bottom of the page a Notation
"Sudden Strike and Sneak attack"
for the purpose of qualifying for feats, PrC's and similar options that require a minimum number of sneak attack damage dice, treat the dread commandos Sudden strike ability as the equivelant of sneak attack

I happen to know Access is out there
