Hi I was thinking of playing a stormlord but not sure if i can pull it off.

Firstly I know that the deities you can worship have changed (as talos isn't in lg) where can I find a list of these?

Secondly here is my general build, anything I've forgotten or could improve.(doesn't have the biggest baddest build just one that is fun and not a drag on the party).

Human,
Str 14, Dex 14, Con 14, Wis 8, Int 8, Cha 16
Religon (not sure, something with access to Stormlord and favoured weapon javelin (or spear))

1 Favoured soul, Point blank, Percises shot
2 Favoured soul
3 Favoured soul, Weapon focus favoured weapn, Great fortitude
4 Favoured soul
5 Favoured soul
6 Favoured soul, Endurance
7 Stormlord
8 Stormlord
9 Stormlord, Rapid shot
10 Stormlord
11 Stormlord
12 Stormlord, Craft arms and armour
13 Stormlord
14 Stormlord
15 Stormlord, ?

Basic tactics, Bluff people with spells and throw javelins.

This looks similar to something I was thinking of running. Looks fairly good with one glaring error. You cannot make any use of Rapid Shot or the iterative attack you get at 9th level with Javleins without Quick Draw. Some people will argue that Brutal Throw/Power Attack/Powerful Throw and a high strength it the way to go. My problem with this is that, due to the high feat requirements of the PRC and the fact it is usually better to not take fighter/masterthrow ranks that dilute spell throwing, you can't go that route AND go the accuracy route of Point-blank Shot/Precise Shot/Rapid-Shot. Given we are talking about a Cleric BAB, I feel accuracy and more shots is going to net you more in the long run than the strength route. It also helps Favored Souls a lot AC wise since they can't wear heavy armor.

The deities you can use for Stormlord are listed in the LG Deities Guide on the LG web site. Procan is a good choice as he actually lets you use Trident for the Stormlord abilities, which is decent if you want to fight with a shield.

Hi

Started a Human Cleric in Bright Sands with a view to going Stormlord at 6th lvl.
Human Cleric Velnius (Windstorm & Travel)
St 16 De 14 Co 12 In 10 Wi 14 Ch 8
Feats: Endurance & Gt Fortitude

Taking Wpn Focus Longspear at 3rd. Just need to survive that lightning attack & I'll meet all prereqs at 5th. Stormlord at 6th.

Idea is for Light Infantry type, with elemental damage on his main weapon. Only played 1 mod so far - but hopefully get a few games in at Conception.

Cheers

Ug you are right I need quick draw, add to that none of these deities have favours weapon of javelin. There just too many feets needed I think I'll be better going straight favoured soul and replacing Endurance and Great fortitude with quick draw and craft arms and armour (allowing me to create javelins that are just as good stormlord would give me.)

A way to look at Stormlord is that it is a way to throw magic javelins, not necessarily as a primary caster PrC. i.e. you can go something like this:
Human Str 16, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 8, Cha 15

1: Barbarian 1: Power Attack, WF: Trident
2: Hexblade 1
3: Hexblade 2: Extra Rage
4: Fighter 1: Cha 16: Point Blank Shot
5: Fighter 2: Precise Shot
6: Master Thrower 1: Great Fortitude, Quickdraw(Two with One Blow)
7: Hexblade 3
8: Divine Crusader of Procan(Luck, Travel, and Water all good choices) 1: Cha 17
9: DCoP 2: Endurance
10: DCoP 3
11: Stormlord 1
12: Stormlord 2: Cha 18: WF: Javelin
13: Stormlord 3
14: Stormlord 4
15: DCoP 4: Improved Critical: Trident

He's something of a multiple threat BDF with lots of options:
Rage 3/day
Casts a good number of spells. 7th level spells with a +6 Cloak.
Has both good ranged and melee attacks.
Has Mettle and extremely good saves vs spells, not bad otherwise.

His BAB isn't that great, but it doesn't take the hit until 8th. Also,
until Brutal Throw hits, he's significantly better at the melee part
than the throwing part. Note the coolness factor of 'Two with One Blow' - it lets you throw a Trident or Javelin at your target and have it 'arc' to another person next to him.

If you were willing to lose a caster level, you could take a level of Master Thrower at 6th or 7th and still otherwise keep the build roughly the same.

Do the Hexblade levels really add anything to that build, Mommy? It seems to me that it would be a lot stronger if you replaced them with Ranger. That would free up a feat and give you a lot more skill points.

If you really wanted Mettle, Ranger 2/Pious Templar 1 might be good too.

I believe he is taking the levels of Hexblade for Arcane Resistance. He's trying to utilize the charisma for more than just divine crusader casting.

If you are willing to give up some casting on the cleric side I would suggest a level of fighter and a level of master thrower to see you through.

Race: Human
Stats: Str 14, Int 8, Wis 16, Dex 14, Con 14, Cha 8 , adjust to taste bumping WIS

Levels 1-5 Cleric feats for the Stormlord PrC
Levels 6-7 Stormlord Point Blank Shot
Level 8 Fighter 1 Precise Shot
Level 9 Master Thrower Rapid Shot, Quick Draw(b) Trip Shot.
Levels 10-15 Stormlord

For the first 7 levels you play as a support cleric. At 8th (or 9th) add into combat with your thrown javelins doing a little tripping as incidental fun.

It's not a power build, but it gives you stormlord with near full cleric casting and retains the javelin throwing for you. Think of it as a middle of the road build.

PS: On the barb-hex build I think you need a higher DEX score.

The Barb-hex build doesn't just throw things, it is a reasonably standard bdf tank who wears Full Plate. And the feats are tight enough that being not human is a big penalty...

Arcane Resistance eventually gives the build +7 to all saves vs spells...

OK, Arcane Resistance is a lot better than I thought it was. Ignore me. :P

Nice build MwaO i hadn't thought of Divine Crusader as an entry route.

What I was really trying for was a primary favoured soul and what to do with his weapon feats. I already have two fighter types with a splatering of spells. I think I've come to the conculsion that stormlord favoured souls don't work (costs too many feats to get into).

I wouldn't say that. They aren't as nice as they might first look and they don't get really good with the javelins until 12th level or so. But they have all the spells of a straight favored soul and some nifty ranged and melee abilities.

They work, because divine casters are strong, but it is challenging to make an divine archer/stormlord because you're down a couple feats. OTOH, people make DMM quicken cleric archers so it isn't impossible.

I looked at all this and decided my favored soul/stormlord wasn't going to be a primary melee character or archer but actually primarily a support guy who can step up in a pinch and add some damage through a mix of spells like ring of blades and poking things with trident while being nearly indestructible. In lower levels I use a riding dog as my "ring of blades", adding enough damage to my moderately weak damage to combine into something almost useful, and "good enough" to win eventually if the party is kind of sucking.

I could have done it as just a pure favored soul too, and had a somewhat nicer feat mix, especially early on but the flavor was better with both and the two classes complement fairly well from a "Random special ability" standpoint. Someday Storm Ride will be kind of fun, once I have control weather...imagine a gnome flying around in a storm healing and buffing and occasionally hurting people...

Well, if Procan's gonna keep sticking me in the middle of messes I'm gonna keep complaining. But in future I'll be able to summon up a storm that matches my mood :)
