| SteveMND04-24-07, 11:07 AM | Aside from the stuff in the Core books (Weapon focus, improved grapple, enlarge prerson, etc.), can anyone suggst magic items, feats, and/or class abilities that might increase one's Grapple checks? There are so many new books out there with potentially yummy goodness, and I don't have acess to them all. ;-) |
| Mommy was an Orc04-24-07, 11:46 AM | Take a level in Sorcerer or Wizard, pick up Fist of Stone and Master's Touch(both from Spell Compendium) Round 1: Swift action cast Master's Touch on your Scorpion's Claws from Sandstorm. Standard action cast Fist of Stone. At a cost of +1 BAB, you just raised your Grapple Check by +7, +3 if you don't have time/spells to cast Fist of Stone. |
| Japangirl04-24-07, 06:05 PM | Be a druid with one level of monk (Imp grapple, obviously) and take Nature's Warrior prestige class (CW I think). Between the two that's a +8 on grapple checks, plus you're a shifting druid and you become a dire bear (31 base Str and large). |
| Cardinal Teplin04-25-07, 03:08 AM | Marshals can add their charisma to the party's grapple checks. |
| paigeoliver04-26-07, 04:01 AM | Marshals can add their charisma to the party's grapple checks. No they cannot. There is no grapple aura. The strength aura does not modify grapples because a grapple check is not a strength check. "Repeatedly in a grapple, you need to make opposed grapple checks against an opponent. A grapple check is like a melee attack roll." Remember kids, a grapple check is not a strength check, no matter how many times you here people who don't understand the grappling rules call it one. It is modified by your strength, but it is not a strength check. It is basically the exact same mechanism as an attack roll, but with size modifiers. |
| GrahamWills04-29-07, 01:07 AM | It is modified by your strength, but it is not a strength check. It is basically the exact same mechanism as an attack roll, but with size modifiers. I'm not sure this is quite right. For example, I am not sure that favored enemy bonuses, weapon focus and specialization bonuses and attack enhancement spells (e.g. bless) affect a grapple (they may affect grapple damage, but not the check). The rules state that it is like an attack, but it is not an attack. My reading is that almost nothing affects a grapple check unless it specifcally states that it does. I do however agree that it is NOT a strength check. |
| boogahwoof04-30-07, 01:09 AM | Dont forget about the armor special ability slick either, I do believe it helps out on that providing a +5 +10 or +15 comp bonus on escape artist check, dependinig on how much you wanna invest. I believe you can use escape artist to get out of a grapple? |
| Eric Anondson04-30-07, 03:36 AM | Aside from the stuff in the Core books (Weapon focus, improved grapple, enlarge prerson, etc.), can anyone suggst magic items, feats, and/or class abilities that might increase one's Grapple checks? There is a feat in Dungeon #104 that you would need access to. I'm not sure if it has appeared in the campaign anywhere, but it is possible to get access to it. Mantle of Freedom Prerequisites: Worship Trithereon, Iron Will Benefit: Add Charisma bonus to grapple checks, Escape Artist Checks, and Strength checks to break bonds. +2 sacred bonus against saves versus paralysis, petrification, and any effect that hinders movement (such as slow). Quite nice, good luck getting access though. If you have a build with a decent Charisma, this can get nice. The Reaping Mauler PrC in Complete Warrior is chalk full of grapply goodness. Reaping Mauler requires the grapple-centric Clever Wrestling feat also from Complete Warrior. If you want something to keep you out of a grapple, there probably isn't a better feat than Close Quarters Fighting, again in Complete Warrior. |
| Eric Anondson04-30-07, 03:38 AM | I'm not sure this is quite right. ... The rules state that it is like an attack, but it is not an attack.Well, he did add the qualifier "it is basically the exact same..." |
| _metz_04-30-07, 06:58 AM | I hate grapple rules :) |
| Eric Anondson04-30-07, 08:29 PM | Just came across a new grapple booster. Crystals of glancing blows from the MIC. Least +2, lesser +5, greater +10 to grapple checks. |
| haferka05-01-07, 09:16 AM | mancatcher .. complete warrior.. add weapon feats & enhancements to the grapple check.. which is now a "reach" weapon.. |
| Rerednaw05-01-07, 03:42 PM | Aside from the stuff in the Core books (Weapon focus, improved grapple, enlarge prerson, etc.), can anyone suggst magic items, feats, and/or class abilities that might increase one's Grapple checks? There are so many new books out there with potentially yummy goodness, and I don't have acess to them all. ;-) Well you could focus on dropping their grapple check: Requires 17 wisdom, BAB +2. Take one level of monk (at a level where you get a feat if you can manage it like 3 or 6). Improved Unarmed Strike + Stunning Fist and get the (Complete Warrior) Weakening Touch feat. -6 strength penalty (costs a stunning fist plus you need to hit) for 1 minute. Ray of Enfeeble also works wonders. |
| UMiskatonic05-01-07, 05:28 PM | Being bigger should help. Enlarge Person does wonders. Also, being stronger. So, rage, bull's strength, etc. |
| robotdog05-01-07, 07:17 PM | Round 1: Swift action cast Master's Touch on your Scorpion's Claws from Sandstorm. Standard action cast Fist of Stone. I have a question about Scorpion's Claws -- since they are attached to your forearms can you still wield a normal weapon in your hand? And if you do this, do you still get the slashing damage (in addition to the normal damage from the weapon in your hand) from the claws in melee combat? scott. |
