If I wanted to build a half celestial or half dragon or half fiend, and characters start at lvl 1, how would that work? (those templates do have level mods don't they?)

I don't think it would work, because you are limited to races/classes/etc. from the LGCS.

I'm pretty sure that half-dragon ain't there.

If you're curious in a general way, then re-post this on the appropriate board.

What forum would that be?

The closest you can come to any of the aforementioned builds in LG is to create a good-aligned Dragon Disciple and work toward the half-dragon status.

or you can do some really silly things in "specials", or even some "core" modules, my druid can apply the half-celestial once on himself, for a whole adventure :P and he missed the shadow template just by a split second :)

ps: but from the start . . . . very few things like this were granted, i am not sure what options were opened in the 2006 special "hanging glacier" for those who actually sacrificed their PC.

<edit> now - with the new LGCS - you have the option to start with several "heritage" traits, not as cool as a half you-name-it, but offers some nice thingies ;), especially if combined in a a creative way - look at "fey touched", not much to have at first sight, but a second feat opens up DimDo for ANY character who takes the two feats, just imagine a fighter type, with lots of feats anyway but no stats or levels to spare on spellcasting.

- look at "fey touched", not much to have at first sight, but a second feat opens up DimDo for ANY character who takes the two feats, Fey Legacy is Closed. Somebody decided that two fourth level spells and one fifth level spell per day was a bit too much of a benefit for one feat.

(Yes, it has a second feat as a prerequisite, but Fey Heritage has a significant benefit of its own and isn't being taken solely to qualify for Fey Legacy. +3 to saves vs. Hold Person, Confusion, Dominate Person etc. is very useful.)

While you can't take a template right from the start in LG, there are some template-ish options available:

Dragon Disciple (DMG)
Elemental Savant (turns you into an elemental, Complete Arcane)
Wildrunner (turns you into fey, Races of the Wild)
Alienist, Contemplative (turn you into outsiders, Complete Arcane/Divine)
the 'Fey Heritage' and 'Fiendish Heritage' feat chains (Complete Mage)
the 'Celestial Sorceror' and 'Infernal Sorceror' feat chains (Player's Handbook II)
the Draconic Heritage feat chain (Complete Arcane)
the Jinnbond feat (regional, Dungeon Magazine)

and probably a few more options I'm missing, if you want to have 'nonstandard' heritage for your character.

uhps ;)

yea, obviously somebody thought it a bit powerful (and i think they are right), so no fey legacy and fiendish legacy, butt still the other feats of that bundle.
