I think it depends on your characer. Weapon Finesse was a big pick-up for my character. But obviously the best feat is Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Spiked Chain! :D

CWI is number 1 in my opinion. After that, it is hard to give a number 2, number 2 depends on the specific build that you talking about.

For summoners - Augment Summoning
For melee folks - Power Attack
For warriors - what Eric said
For wizard specialists - Metamagic School Focus
For sorcorers - metamagic in general
For healing clerics - Augment Healing
For turning clerics - Divine Ward
For rogues - Staggering Strike
etc.
etc.

Close Quarters Fighting is easily a top choice for warriors the higher level you get. Shuts down those Improved Grabbing nasties.

I've not picked it up yet, but Staggering Strike seems like it's something I should have had all along. Might retrain to that ASAP.

for all casters: CWI

for frontliners: Power attack

the third is just to defendant on specific build:

Practiced Spellcaster

Divine Ward

Augment Healing

Domain Spontaneity

Rapid Shot

Melee/Ranged Weapon Mastery

ps: a cleric with both, augment healing AND divine ward is really awful, doing this with a radiant servant of mighty rotten milk just becomes insane :P

You forgot one bit: Radiant Servant of Pelor + alternate class feature spontaneous domain casting (Healing Domain) + Augment Healing + Divine Ward.

but the alternate class feature is not open ;)

and there are some issues with "domain spontaneity" and the wording of the radiant class feature.

Ah, right. I was thinking Greyhawk Ruins still. And I'm aware of the issues. I don't plan on making one myself. We recently picked up a new player up here (up to 5 total including a DM now :)) who likes to play a heal bot as he called it. So his first PC is on the way to being Radiant Servant of Azor'Alq (local god). Tried a rogue in Scourge of the Howling Horde and didn't really like it, so in Greyhawk Ruins he plans on going all out healing cleric.

No one has mentioned Mad Foam Rager ..though Extra Rage is needed first really and probably pips it.

I'm going with Staggering Strike for 3rd place though.

Make sure you buy him a drink every time you survive APL totally imbalanced encounters with more HP than you guys started with :P

Well my paladin is training out of spirited charge once she qualifies for shock trooper becasue she doesnt have room for both and seriously spirited charge is good but shock trooper on a ride by attacker is .. well approaching broken.

So no, I wouldnt put spirited charge in the top 3 feats at all.

Its interesting that improved trip isnt mentioned .. being the root source of most of the spiked chain complaints.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Skill Focus (Craft[Paper Mache])

I have stayed away from using that one because it smacks of excess possible table variation.

For example if you fail your save against Wail of the Banshee invoke the feat as an immediate action and then have death ward cast during the spell delay ? What about if you get hit by Evards invoke the feet and then move out of the Evards area?

These questions are all resovable but I don't like using things that may cause problems at a table or generate a lot of rule checking delays.

Ooh, my Wizard should so take Skill Focus (Craft (Conspiracy)). He does have the ranks..

The easy answer is: what does EVERYONE that plays a particular character role have (or at least most people)?

Power Attack, Augment Summoning, Practiced Spellcaster, Metamagic School Focus, Melee/Ranged Weapon Mastery, Extra Rage, Augment Healing, Craft Wondrous Item, etc.

Spirited Charge is of course popular...

They've all been said. We all know what the best open feats are!

Weapon Specialization/Weapon Mastery (you wouldn't take one without taking both)
Extra Rage
Split Ray

But spirited charge PLUS shocktrooper is even better ;)

I'll submit Quicken Spell as one of the most powerful metamagics, but yeah, I agree with the other suggestions so far.

Yeah but she is not human and hence feat starved .. even with a hospitaler level she needs to train out of either power attack or spirited charge to get shock trooper at level 9 (and training out power attack would make shock trooper pointless). She can get spirited charge back again at 12.

You can't retrain out of power attack, you need it for Improved Bullrush.

good point :)

Basically she will just have to lose spirited charge for levels 9, 10 and 11 or wait till 12 to take shock trooper. I think as a rider by attacker she is better with double lance damage and shock trooper.
