| Wraith23508-09-07, 06:21 PM | start with Melee I guess .... |
| Grantor08-09-07, 06:30 PM | Have you read the Stickied posting for this Forum? All of the best optimized builds that have been discussed in this forum are listed there. Living Greyhawk Compilation 597 (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=793624) |

Power and playability aren't necessarily the same thing - a 20 Str Half-Orc might do more damage than an 18 Str Half-Orc, but that doesn't make him a better party member. |
| Genghis Cohen08-09-07, 07:59 PM | start with Melee I guess ....A very popular one is a high strength Barbarian 1/Fighter 5/Exotic Weapon Master 1/Fighter X. This type of build is usually based around using a one handed exotic weapon (like a bastard sword, dwarven waraxe, elven thinblade or great scimitar), with two hands to benefit from EWM's Uncanny Blow trick that allows for the application of double the strength bonus to damage rolls. Some of the feats associated with such a build, besides those needed as prerequisites, are Extra Rage, Power Attack, Reckless Rage, Weapon Specialization, Melee Weapon Mastery. A popular variation of this type of build is to utilize 4 levels of Pious Templar. The True Believer feat, as well as 4 ranks in Knowledge (Religion), is needed for entry. Benefits of 4 levels of Pious Templar include Mettle (like Evasion for fort and will saves), Weapon Specialization, another bonus fighter feat, strong fort and will saves, smiting, access to paladin spells, and DR 1/-. An NG Templar of Mayaheine can have rage, EWM benefits, and the class features of Pious Templar. Such a build might be something like Barbarian 1/Fighter 4/Pious Templar 1/EWM 1/Pious Templar 3/Fighter X. |
| bitznarf08-09-07, 08:02 PM | There is no 'best' in my opinion. There *may* be a best at one particular aspect of melee. But I've yet to see a build that I would ever call the 'best' at melee. There are just too many aspects to be the best in even half of them, never mind all of them. |
