Trying to figure out classes to base around a character concept [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've always wanted to play a guy with a couple screws loose. Not something so detrimental(sp) that it ruins the mod for my table, but just something fun. I'm leaning towards the crazy fanatical zealot, like chaos space marines but a good guy, something like a pious templar/holy liberator of Zagyg, but I want to make sure my character isn't so weird because I'm trying to tailor his classes the best to his personality that I become a hinderance on the party. So if anyone can think of a couple of classes or class combinations that might suit the role of someone like that or another fun idea to make a crazy good guy please let me know.

Cleric 3/Church Inquisitor 10 can be a lot of fun.

If you're 'on a mission from God', you have a lot of lee-way to be stubborn and dogmatic.

Warmage/Wildmage allows for lots of blast-em mayhem, and you'll be useful enough that people will want to have you around even though you're a nutcase.

And, as far as ruining everyone else's fun, the best balance I've ever seen came from a guy whose character was 'a southern gentleman'. He refused to deal with anyone or anything that was disrespectful to him, and at one point, stormed out of negotiations shouting "I refuse to be insulted in this way, I will await you outside"

I was impressed, because he:

-allowed the rest of us to continue with our own goals
-supported his allies (us) by not interfering with talks
-AND remained 100% in character

I play just such a character, but he's a Wizard/Alienist.

It's really not hard to play a nutcase in such a way that it doesn't screw the rest of the party.

For example, my above character is a grey elf. He walks around everywhere wearing gaudy clothes, wears a fake beard in the dwarven style, has an albino rat named Ratattoui that he wears/carries like a hat, and carries a severed mummified hand that he calls the "Hand of Zagyg" that bids him do things.

There have been times where, when I had nothing better to do in combat, he would fall prone, stand back up, fall prone again, stand back up again, then fall prone one last time. :D

He's absolutely nuts, and he's tons of fun to play.

(It's really funny when he's acting as the party leader...)

We have a character in our group that's a card. He started out as a ranger, but he played up (when it was still allowed) with a level 12 group. His first level ranger got abducted by demons and tortured. Now he runs around with Fluffy, his colassal red dragon animal companion. Yup. You can't see her, though...she's got a REALLY good hide check. ^.^

Guys dont give him/her advice based upon PRC's that he would have to get access to play (wildmage) or allowed PRC's (church inquisitor) that requires something specifically noted on the AR. It is impossible to plan a character hoping that you might gain access to something.

He can always request a special mission. That's what they are for, right?

Not for wild mage though. He lives in the BK and our Triad has basically said don't ask for wild mage acess, you won't get it.

I bet we could get Wild Mage access if we had a clear ruling about Wild Mage + Practiced Spellcaster that didn't involve us casting from Character level to character level +3 :)

Also I don't know if I became a raging extrovert in the last couple years or so but it seems in a good portion of the tables I play at I become the self-proclaimed party leader/diplomat, so something with charisma would probably be better.

You can be carzy with everything.
Nesalia is my craziest char - but even thoughs he is a total mutt (and a dragon disicple), it's not the classes that make her so (though she did worship Zagyg at one point and still serves him a bit). She is just very eager to adventure, very spontaneous, and can get odd ideas and thinks up alchemical 'inventions' (like edible soap and the thermo-inducted ionising argentite condensator).
She was a lot nuttier in the past, when she would sew shut he rmouth just to see what would happen (given she was a spellcaster that did hamper a bit...).

I know a player who runs a priest of Ralishaz (iirc) who was quite crazy. he walked around with spiked armor, with rubber chickens danlign from the spikes. Believed all misfortune came from him (ocacsionally, DMs played into that, and buildings might spontaneously burn down just because he passed through).

Maybe:
Half-Elf
1 Rogue Iron Will
2 Barbarian
3 Hexblade Extra Rage
4 Hexblade
5 Hexblade
6 Outcast Champion Power Attack
7 Outcast Champion
8 Holy Liberator
9 Holy Liberator Staggering Strike
10 Holy Liberator
11 Holy Liberator
12 Rogue Intimidating Rage
13 Outcast Champion
14 Outcast Champion
15 Outcast Champion Leadership

Keep up Diplomacy and Intimidate - it's nice to have one for when the other fails, and your PC would be crazy enough to play good cop and bad cop at the same time. Strength and Charisma, followed by Intelligence and Constitution, are this character's focuses. Saves should not be an issue whatsoever with Divine Grace, Mettle, and Evasion, so you can crazily wade into pretty much anything, and then play nutty face outside of combat.

More importantly, though, make sure to say "it's because I'm a half-elf, isn't it?" whenever anyone does something you dislike. Accuse anyone and everyone of being racist.

You can also BE the bigot.
Like Ivor Marg, my dwarf necromancer, who died an unrecoverable death when the party left his corpse behind on a sinking ship (darn mummies).
He would ***** about every race and hyper-sterotype them. Including dwarves (goldgrabbing greedy buggers, all o' them!).
One of his moments was getting the party paladin to pay him to come on an adventure :P

I've only done this once with my Gray Elf wizard.

Though, it was more along the lines of "You Gray Elves... Always thinking you're better than everyone else! *spit*"
