My friend is a Level 9 Cleric of Pelor with the Shadow Template, which is a +1 LA (haha, get it? He's the servant of the God of Light and he's composed of shadowstuff!) He's been going Radiant Servant of Pelor, and does some pretty nice turning in the rare event that he sees undead. He's a very good buffer, a very good turner, an optimal healer, and can throw down a flame strike or two to make my job easier.

However, I'm looking at the Hierophant Prestige Class from the DMG, and I'm wondering if the +4 to turning checks and damage is worth taking another hit to his caster level. Admittedly, his favorite thing to do is turn- and if you really want to optimize it...that would be another prestige class to take at Level 12 or whenever you're able to take it. Alternatively, he could continuing advancing in RSoP. There is also a few prestige classes within Libris Mortis that have piqued his curiousity. He is effectively completely twinked- he only needs another spell and item to maximize his turning ability within the scope of LG...and I think he may already have that item.

Yes, we do live in Furyondy. ;-)

Opinions? Thoughts?

I wouldn't take Hierophant for a turner. I'm pretty sure it doesn't progress turning level - so you get +4 to turning checks and damage, but lose an effective turning level. That's not a good trade even before considering the loss of spellcasting.
