| redgamer04-20-07, 04:50 PM | Due to a set of interesting curcumstance I am attempting to create a character around a set of equipment. I got access to this equipment on AR#0 in an interactive were the character that played it got removed from the campaign indefinatly. To me this equipment screems battle cleric but I'm not sold on that idea. +3 Full Plate of cold resistance and +4 enhancement to strength +6 wisdom/+2 natural armor amulet +6 int/+2 armor headband with a built in ion stone (+1 caster level) A few considerations: I have thus far avoided playing small characters because of the reduced speed (and I find them annoying culturally but mostly the speed I could tailor the personality to overcome the stereotypes) The armor is steel not mithril and almost certaintly will never be mithril. The armor bonus on the headband strikes me as redundant and how many int based characters don't craft their own headband of intellect My ability to uprade these items is quite restricted so the character must be able to be viable without them. The strength enhancement in particular is a late game purchase so I may buy/craft belt of strength and trade it in for a unique belt in the APL 14 range if the character needs good strength. I don't mind healing in combat but I don't want that to be my only option. Thus either a tricked out casting cleric (takes feats similar to a wizard) or one whose melee presense is good enough that spellcasting is often inferior to smashing things with a mace. I've never played a high AC charcter but I do know the basic tricks. IE multiple small bonuses to keep AC viable. |

The armor is steel not mithril and almost certaintly will never be mithril. sounds like a perfect toy for a dwarven battle cleric of some sort or maybe a dwarven rogue/figther. +6 wisdom/+2 natural armor amulet my monk would kill - hm, ok, not actually kill, because he is a follower of zodal - but bring anyone as near to death as necessary to get this item ;) getting a little bonus AC isn't bad for a cleric either (assuming any cleric is going for the +6 wis amulet anyway). +6 int/+2 armor headband with a built in ion stone (+1 caster level) the +6 intelligence is nice for any wizard or maybe a swashbuckler or even a rogue type. the +1 caster level is useful for ANY caster and having a +3 on all intelligence based skills, mostly the knowledge types for a cleric is not too bad either. how expensive are those items? your money seems to be quite tough if you want to buy all of them. conclusion: a cleric, any race you like, somehow more frontlinerish, with these items already set into the career, you might even go along without any crafting feat - i assume you are not allowed to craft said items yourself? - maybe an opportunity for one of the sidetracks - cleric/stormlord, cleric/warpriest or cleric/shining weapon (but as usual i would prefer full caster progression). ciao martin m. |
| Redfist04-20-07, 05:45 PM | Personally - the headband part of the package sells it for me. Be an max INT wizard. my 2gp |
| redgamer04-20-07, 06:41 PM | Any wizard with craft wonderous item can easily have a headband of intellect +6. These items are fully upgraded almost 50k each this is less then market value but more than crafting cost. |
| Maesto04-21-07, 12:24 AM | A +2 armour bonus won't stack with mage armour or actual armour? Or is it just an unnamed bonus to AC? |
| redgamer04-21-07, 02:19 PM | The way I read it it would not stack with either mage armor, braces of armor, or normal armor. Its possible that is not the intent but I don't think so. |

| Zanzibax04-21-07, 02:41 PM | Lessee... Cleric...3 levels Warmage ...4 levels 8th level onward...Mystic Theurge Ok...the armor doesn't work so well with that build |
| magebeast04-21-07, 05:46 PM | I am confused about how it is that you can play a character that got removed from the campaign? |
| redgamer04-21-07, 05:52 PM | Since the character got removed from play the AR he would have gotten reverts to a future character. Interactives and Core Specials do this every once in a while. |
| jstorrie04-21-07, 07:25 PM | I definitely agree that battle cleric is what you want. Cookie-cutter dwarf cleric with a one-level Battlesmith dip, maybe? If not battle cleric, then definitely a monk of some sort. The headband is a bit underwhelming because it combines slots that aren't in very high demand; if you ran a battle cleric, you could wear a belt of dwarvenkind for Con (since your fullplate already has Str) and you'd be set. |
| Drezden04-21-07, 08:24 PM | His character sacrificied himself to allow an important battle to be won. That character was removed from play - but he got to keep the AR for use with a brand new character. This happened at the MVC interactive. BTW - I think the headband is awesome - my Archmage bought it right after the interactive. With the change in MIC, it is hard to find the +1 orange ioun stone - being able to get in with a headband +6 is just great. I would strongly consider going wizard with the character - the headband is a true signature item. Daren I am confused about how it is that you can play a character that got removed from the campaign? |

"If the wearer is not a dwarf, he gains 60-foot darkvision, dwarven stonecunning, a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution, and a +2 resistance bonus on saves against poison, spells, or spell-like effects." Belt of Dwarvenkind works if you are NOT a dwarf. ;) Also is enhancement so unless you need the wisom, Amulet of Health always the way to go. |
| jstorrie04-21-07, 10:14 PM | Right. The belt was an option for a non-human battle cleric, like a half-orc one. |
| Timlagor04-22-07, 07:52 PM | Cleric/Warmage/Mystic Theurge Go blow stuff up. Why do people persist in wanting to multi-class Warmage? |
| Zanzibax04-22-07, 08:27 PM | Why do people persist in wanting to multi-class Warmage? I plead unfamiliarity with the base class! |
| smerwin2904-22-07, 08:29 PM | Heh. I'm in the same situation as redgamer, and I've been playing "build the character around the items" too. Still not sure what I am going to do. I've had lots of ideas for making two of the three mesh, but I still can't put all three together in a way I like. |
| Alma04-23-07, 04:08 AM | could just go warmage take the feat and use the armor when you can |
| Timlagor04-23-07, 12:07 PM | If you really want to use them all then Divine Prankster is probably the best route (and the headband is almost certainly still not worth it). They aren't that complementary though. |
| Nutation04-23-07, 01:52 PM | Maybe you need to take Leadership and spread the items across two characters. |
| redgamer04-23-07, 02:12 PM | Leadership may not be a bad idea. A wizard cohort on a cleric build. Only problem is 50k is very expensive for a cohort and I can only upgrade it when I travel to ohio. Upgrades are once per veluna mod. |
