What Favored Weapon/Domain pair for a Divine Crusader? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm working on making a Divine Crusader and I'm trying to find all of the good combinations of Domains + Favored weapons to work around. I've got some I really like so far but I could always use more. My build is working around Paladin so I'd prefer Lawful Good deities, but if you know a good non-Lawful Good deity I'm sure those other Divine Crusaders would like to hear them aswell.

Favorites so far:
Mayaheine: Protection + Bastard Sword
Al'akbar: Healing + Falchion

Several deities offer Mysticism, Strength, and/or Courage, which are worth it despite having to choose a 1d8 one-handed weapon. Bahamut offers Luck and Dragon and favours Heavy Pick.

From looking into it a bit, both Competition and Destiny seem like nifty domains, and you can get the greatsword in either. (Kord or Lender, i believe)

The 'power domains' for melee or ranged-focus characters, and the 'best' weapons for each in my opinion would be:

Celerity - Ehlonna (Longbow, NG); Solonor Thelandira (Longbow, CG); Zuoken (unarmed strike, N, for particularly weird Sacred Fists)
Competition - Kord (Greatsword, CG)
Courage - Kord (Greatsword, CG)
Destiny - Chronepsis (Scythe, N, dragon-specific); Lendor (Greatsword, LN)
Force - Boccob (Quarterstaff, N)
Glory - Heironeus (Longsword/battleaxe, LG); Pelor (Heavy mace, NG)
Healing - Al'Akbar (Falchion, LG); Callarduran Smoothhands (Greataxe, N, gnomish); Myrhiss (shortbow, NG)
Liberation - Garl Glittergold (greataxe, NG, gnomish)
Luck - Bahamut (heavy pick, LG); Kord (greatsword, CG); Uvot (scythe, NG)
Mysticism - Trithereon (spear, LG); various with warhammer
Pact - Vergadain (longsword, N, dwarven); Xerbo (trident, N)
Strength - Kord (greatsword, CG)
War - Gendwar Argrim (dwarven waraxe, LN, dwarven); Kelanen (any martial sword, N); Mayaheine (bastard sword, LG); Phaulkon (longbow, CG); Solonor Thelandira (longbow, CG, elf); Vathris (longspear, LN, assumedly everyone is sick of him now thanks to the Bright Sands arc); Wastri (alas! no racism allowed); Xan Yae (falchion, N); Zuoken (unarmed strike, N)

I personally like Procan for travel and using a trident. Nothing says dangerous like a fighter who can cast fly, teleport, d-door etc.

Travel may be great for Cleric dips, but it's not all that for Divine Crusaders given that the domain power doesn't work if you don't have Cleric levels. There are a handful of domains with the same problem that I didn't include, which are otherwise decent.

The gods that have LG as a legal alignment can get pretty interesting. You go Fighter 1/Paladin 1-5/Hospitaler 1/Divine Crusader 1-4/Hospitaler 2-5 - that way, you're getting Charisma synergy, bonus feats, a Mount to go with the Hospitaler prereqs, and if you have a 24 Charisma, 7th level spells at 15th with only a loss of 1 BAB.

I never thought about that before. Has there been any erratta on the subject? I know in complete divine they say that you gain the granted power of the domain, but doesn't make any references to domain powers that improve by cleric level. One would think they would simply be based on your level in the class that grants the domain in that case, but there is nothing in teh rules to specifically indicate that....

There's a FAQ entry, actually. Search for "domain", iirc. It specifies that if you get a domain from a non-cleric class, that class replaces cleric in the description of the domain power - or something to that effect.

Hey, right on page 2.
Powers from clerical
domains are class features, and any level-based variables they
have depend on your level in the class that gives you access to
the domain.

So Divine Crusaders do get the benefits of the Travel, Destruction, and Strength domains, among others...

Also, consider the Reserve feats with a divine crusader. There are a few combinations that could work (Force Blade or Invisible Needle with Force, Fiery Bust with Fire, etc.). It might even be worth taking Heighten, so you can increase the level of the domain spells. That way, you only need ONE spell with the particular descriptor...

Good luck with it!

Force Blade with a force domain Divine Crusader is a pretty cool idea...that's the only one that really works well there though, and even then, Boccob is the only PC worshipable deity with that domain, so you'd need Weapon Focus (Quarterstaff) to get in...
