so i've just popped level 8 with a fighter tank build and i've just completed grewhawk ruins so with out giving out any spoilers i have a little extra cash around (25,000 or so). my ac unpumped is 30, h.p. 85, saves are crap, and i'm +14/+11 +9 damage....so what to spend this extra cash on??? i have access to put holy on my sword, i could raise my ac, belt of giant strength, boots of speed, ion stones, amulets, rings....i don't know i'm stuck, too many choices. suggestions?

A Belt of Giant Strength (+4/+6) is always a good investment for a melee character.

Second to me would be Boots of Speed, then maybe an Amulet of Health (+2/+4) depending on how much you want to spend. Upgrades are always available, anyway.

Boots of Speed >> everything else (almost). +1 to hit, +1 to ac, +1 to reflex saves, double movement and a haste attack 10x a day is pretty much as good as it gets for a fighter-type.

Given the price, after buying those you wouldn't be too far away from the Belt +4 which I would put next on the list.

Since you didn't list the other specifics, I'd suggest (first and foremost to the previous 2) a ring of freedom of movement or a cloak of minor displacement if you happened to get access.

saves are crap,

Saving throws become increasingly important as you get to higher levels. I'd pick up a +3 or +4 cloak/vest of resistance.

Extra cash? What is this mysterious item of which you speak?

(have always had the next 50k already planned for in advance)

I agree wholeheartedly.

Nothing ruins your day faster than dying to a Finger of Death or a Disintegrate.

Magic beans. As many as you can buy. They're the investment of a lifetime.

Or you can donate that to help build a church of Olidammara/Fharlanghan/Rudd. I'm accepting donations.

I'm saving up to help improve my AC by improving the bonus on my mithral chain shirt, and by adding the Hide and Move Silent bonuses to it. They can't hit what they can't see.

I've done that as well. Though, never successfully.

I had to wait to buy my Belt of Strength +4 until around 9th because everytime I started saving I gained access to something I couldn't go without. (Ghost Touch enhancement on a basher's weapon and so forth.)

What magic items do you have? This is the first important question.

i have +2 full plate, ring of protection +1, amulet of n.a. +1, tower shield +1, sword +1. i know i should buy the belt, but boosting my ac, and putting holy on my sword are very tempting.

Spend 100gp/TU on lifestyle costs and gain a +4 circumstance bonus to some skills.

25k:

belt of giant strength +4 (16k)
pawn your amulet of natural armor, get an amulet of health (3k)
gloves of dexterity +2 (4k)
vest of resistance +1 (1k)
consumables (1k)

Holy is very nice, but I'd hold off on it until you have all your wondrous item slots filled with the cheap stuff. The Belt of Giant Strength is pretty crucial at this point; upgrading your vest to +2 is a good next step.
