Hello all.

My paladin of Al’Akbar is currently second level and I like the shining blade concept. Here is what I have imagined for him.

Human (Baklunish) Tusman
Str (16) Dex (10) Con (14) Int (8) Wis (12) Cha (14)

1 Paladin Weapon Focus (Falchion), Power Attack
2 Paladin
3 Paladin True Believer (requirement for Pious Templar)
4 Fighter *Improved Bull Rush* Bump Wis
5 Fighter *Improved Sunder*
6 Pious Templar Shock trooper (mettle)
7 Pious Templar
8 Pious Templar *Weapon Specialization (Falchion)* Bump Wis
9 Pious Templar Combat Brute *Improved Critical (Falchion)*
10 Shining Blade
11 Shining Blade
12 Shining Blade Melee Weapon Mastery (Slashing) Bump Str
13 Shining Blade
14 Shining Blade
15 Shining Blade ?Leadership? ?Extra Smiting?

** = Bonus Feat

As you can see I’m trying to optimise my critical range and damage with my falchion.

Spells I'd like to use.

1st level: Bless Weapon (to auto-confirm crit), Divine Sacrifice (big bang),
2nd level: Bull’s Strength, Eagle’s Splendour (smite), Flame of Faith

What I need to know : Do you like feat selection. Something could be changed to do more dmg. Another Prc ? Anything funny to put.

Also could it be a good thing to remove combat brute or shock trooper (with pre-req) to put leadership sooner ?

What I would like to keep. (Having at least access to the first level of spells of the paladin for bless weapon). And keep in mind that my pal is truly a devoter and defender of the faith of al'Akbar.

Thanks all for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

If some sentence seems weird. Just keep in mind that I normally speak Old Baklunish !!!

Marc.

You should take Power Critical and Improved Critical ASAP then. I think there might be a feat which allows you to get 2x damage while weilding a two-handed weapon, but I'm not sure.

I dont need power critical if the spell bless weapon auto-confirm the crit on the evil monster.

For the double damage, it's the awesome blow from the exotic weapon master meaby ? unfortunately my weapon's deity is not exotic.

I dont need power critical if the spell bless weapon auto-confirm the crit on the evil monster.

A - You have to spend a round casting it
B - The monster has to be evil
C - Otherwise good idea, I never realised that Bless Weapon automatically confirmed criticals.

I wouldn't go Paladin 3/Fighter 2 as the entry - I'd either go:
Paladin 2/Knight 1/Fighter 2 or
Paladin 4/Knight 1

Is the fighting challenge +1 better than the Aura of courage and divine health ?

I like the idea of the knight but not sure about loosing the divine health. (I hate mummy)

Thanks all for your rerply...

I don't know that I'd bother bumping up the Wisdom; I don't feel like it buys you much, especially because two out of the three 2nd level spells you want to use can fundamentally be better achieved by stat-boost items (which you'd clearly be able to afford by the time you'd be getting 2nd level spells from Pious Templar).

I'm currently playing a Paladin (of Heironeous) 6 / Pious Templar 1. My initial build was pretty similar to yours, and I've been bumping my Charisma (for Divine Grace, better Lay on Hands, and better Diplomacy); might not be the best build, but it seems to be working for me.

If you're going for aura of courage/divine health, you might as well get Turning the next level and therefore turning feat access...

I applaud you for not just dipping into Pious Templar to get mettle.

I'm staying the course for a while in Pious Templar, too, but I have to tell you, Mettle saved my bacon in a module last weekend.

The bad guys dropped a *pair* of Cloudkills on the party. Thankfully, none of us were low enough level to face "save or die", but it was Con damage (save for half). Everyone else was (justifiably) crying about how many HPs they were suddenly down, while I'm walking through it without a problem.

You won't be able to turn undead, but you have the ability.

That cries out for tuning-related feats. I'd drop either combat brute or shock trooper, and grab divine might or divine vigor.

If you want Wisdom 14 then buy it to start with. Bumping something you spent under 6 points in is frightfully wasteful.

You're right, Arafinwe ISN'T sorry...does Arrias want one of the scalps that Arafinwe took that day?

Ok so I should put 15 str and put directly 14 wis.

That way I'll have 18 str at the end instead of 14 wis.

Good point thanks.

Not so much. You noticed that my dice reflected Arrias' inner conflict about that whole combat...

My Paladin of Azor'alq is doing a very similar build, and there's one problem I still haven't figured out how to overcome.

Bless weapon is a minute/level spell, and shining blade takes a standard action. That means in a situation where you don't get to prepare for combat (which is at least half the time), you either only get one or the other (obviously suboptimal) or you take two rounds prepping (utterly unacceptable). I wish there was a "quicken supernatural ability" feat (or that shining blade was spell-like) :(
