3.0 Faq [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-06-06, 11:30 PM I'd like to hear peoples' opinions adding some stipulation at the beginning of chapter 9, on including the "rulings" in the 3.0 FAQ, for those questions that were not superceded by 3.5 rules and/or not "re"-answered in the 3.5 FAQ.

For example, a question was recently posed on the Living_Greyhawk Yahoo! group regarding what happens to someone under the effects of a freedom of movement when the enter a body of water (perhaps by falling off a boat) -- do they sink to the bottom and take falling damage? This question is answered in the 3.0 FAQ, but not the 3.5 FAQ, yet the 3.0 version can still be considered relevant...

Thoughts?

02-07-06, 12:21 AM I think it is a good idea but I think could get cumbersome to implement. Because the number of questions that remain answered in the 3.0 FAQ is more than a few would the LGCS have to specify which questions still get answered or reprint those questions altogether?

I know of at least one more question that is answered in the 3.0 FAQ and not in the 3.5 FAQ (which was also recently brought up on a LG-related Yahoo! Group), which is the rules regarding the use of the Fly spell, or its variants, while underwater.

Purely due to this check-and-verify nature of each question I don't think it is feasible to include the 3.0 FAQ rulings in the LGCS, even if it would be a good thing to have.

02-09-06, 10:10 AM It would be helpful to have a statement in the LGCS specifically including or specifically excluding the 3e FAQ.

The front page of the 3.5e Main FAQ kind of includes the 3e FAQ by reference, so some DMs use it and some don't.

This version of the D&D FAQ uses the 3.5 revision of the core rules and also contains questions covering material from a variety of books (such as Savage Species and Epic Level Handbook). If you haven’t yet adopted the revision, don’t worry—in the rare instance that the answer is different between 3rd edition and the 3.5 revision, we’ll bring it to your attention with a call out that says “Revision Alert.”

Sadly, even though there are many, many answers that are different between 3e and 3.5e, there are no entries labeled "Revision Alert."
