Since Bear Form doesn't really work like a regular Polymorph, the errata doesn't do anything to change it.

A Bear doesn't have thumbs, so it wouldn't have much luck weilding any sort of weapon.

I don't know what you mean about the book's examples...You simply take the Bear Form bonuses (for Black, Brown, or Dire, as appropriate), and add them to your stats just like you would a regular Rage. You gain the size, reach, and speed of the bear form, and its natural weapons, plus Improved Grab for the latter forms.

There was an errata for CW that covered the number of uses of rage and turning into a bear. Not sure which parts of the PrC you are confused by.

most of it sadly. mostly the part that states "as normal for polymorph you gain the bears physical qualities (size, movement, natural armor bonus, natural weapons, space, and reach, as well as any EX special attacks possessed by that form.

unlike polymorph you dont get the bears str, dex, or con, nor do u gain your HP back"

however I did look up the stat mods for the bear forms and there almost exsatly the same as the stat gains you get for going into bear form

Just ignore the "as/unlike polymorph" phrases and it should make sense.

The references to polymorph don't actually contribute anything.

Ok, I'll use Brown Bear as my example.

As normal for Polymorphing into a Brown Bear, you get:

Large size, Movement 40 ft, Natural Armor Bonus 5, 2 claws (1d8+Str) and bite (2d6+1/2 Str), Space/Reach 10 ft/5 ft, and Improved Grab

however I did look up the stat mods for the bear forms and there almost exsatly the same as the stat gains you get for going into bear form

Now normally for becoming a Brown Bear, you'd get Str 27, Dex 13, Con 19. However, you instead get +16 added to your Str, +2 added to your Dex, and +8 added to your Con. These changes are handled just like a normal Rage.

Yes it does. It makes a difference in one aspect.

By the polymorph rules, you are no longer a humanoid. You are an animal.

That makes a big difference for the targeting of spells.

For example, Enlarge Person will not work on a Bear Warrior in Bear form, but an Animal Growth would. The same would also be true for harmful spells, such as Charm Person or Hold Person.

multiple enlarge effects don't stack, so animal growth wouldn't do anything to a BW in brown bear form unless he's a centaur in his normal form.

I think you're right though, this is probably the last vestage of "your type changes" polymorph left in Living Greyhawk.

Except that it doesn't say that it's a polymorph effect so it doesn't tell you about your type either way. (it just says that it does some things like polymorph)

It says "as normal for polymorph EXCEPT" and then lists the exceptions. Normally, when something is polymorphed, its type changes to match that of whatever its being polymorphed to. Sometimes this means your type changes from "Humanoid" to "Humanoid" but generally it's different.

No it doesn't.

It states:

Bear Form (Su): A bear warrior can transform into a bear
(similar to the polymorph spell) while in a rage or frenzy. His
only limit on the number of times per day he can assume a
bear form is the number of times per day he enters a rage or
frenzy, and the bear warrior returns to his own form once
the rage or frenzy ends. The bear warrior retains the normal
+2 bonus on Will saves and –2 penalty to Armor Class while
raging, but the ability score bonuses granted by rage or
frenzy are replaced by Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution
bonuses appropriate to the bear form taken (see below). As
normal for polymorph, the bear warrior gains the bear form’s
physical qualities (including size, movement, natural armor
bonus, natural weapons, space, and reach), as well as any
extra ordinary special attacks possessed by the form (such
as improved grab in the brown bear or dire bear form). The
transformation lasts for the duration of the rage or frenzy.
Unlike with the polymorph spell, a bear warrior doesn’t
gain the bear’s Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores
when he takes bear form, nor does he regain any hit points
when he transforms. However, his current hit points increase
due to his new Constitution, as normal for a rage ability.

No it doesn't.

It states:

Oh damn, look at me.

That's what I get for not reading carefully.

:) It's the joy of Wizard's 'I'll be a bit imprecise about what I mean - it's not like anyone will bother arguing, it's so obvious' mantra...

Pretty careless when you're specifically arguing a contradiction about the wording :P

And as a GM and player (of a Bear Warrior), I read the first section to mean that your type changes (similar to the polymorph spell).

Now, I will say that this is somewhat ambiguous, and I would not object to a GM that kept my type as Humanoid (Dwarf).

There are drawbacks and advantages to both rulings.
