I'm thinking about taking the Ability Focus(trip) feat for my wolf animal companion. Does this work? I think it should +2 to the wolfs trip attempt.

I fear it doesn't work. Ability Focus adds to DC, it does not add to checks (Trip is a check).

Unfortunately, the only MM feats that work for most (all?) animal companions are Improved Natural Armor and Improved Natural Attack. As Oogar points out, for the animal to utilize Ability Focus, it needs an attack that requires a save, and there aren't very many of those: Bison - the Stampede ability, but IMO, every animal in the herd would need to have the feat
Vipers - their Poison saves would be affected by the feat
Dire Rat - their Disease saves would be affected by the feat
If you somehow got access/the ability to have vermin as a companion, then anything with poison (scorpions, spiders, etc.) would be able to utilize the feat as well...
