Complete Adventurer has a table of exotic weapons from Complete Warrior that can be use weapon feats from "related weapons" for example great bow counts as a longbow for weapon focus.

This appears to have been done to keep CW weapons consistent with the newer CA ones.

Is this table of weapons approved for LG ???

After a quick glance through the LGCS, I didn't see anything mentioning them one way or the other. The closest rule I can find covers alternate uses for skills. (Sleight of Hand to disguise spellcasting, for example) Those are acceptable with the judge's ok, if you bring the book.

So I would think that they would be ok, as long as you cover it with the judge ahead of time, and you bring the book with you.

I would say that this is not an alternate skill use, so I wouldn't allow it at my tables.

Use of weapon focus I'd allow as DM, but you can't get the weapons without access.

Of course Ira_Dei is correct, you still need the access to get wacky weapons.

Also, some of those exotic weapons state that they count as a regular weapon for focus/specialization-type feats; in that case, you'd be hard pressed to not allow a PC to take advantage of it. (I don't have my books with me, so can't give a specific reference, but IIRC there's a big axe that counts as a greataxe if you have the EWP, so you can use WF: Greataxe)

These weapons do turn up on AR's.

The new complete adventure exotic weapons are fine, they all specifically state you can apply the weapon focus and specialisation feats from the specified "related weapon" in the text of the weapon description.

The problem is the sidebar table on page 116 of CA that lists related weapons to the exotic weapons added in the earlier Complete Warrior.

From a commonsense point of view this table is designed to make the older CW weapons consistent with the ones in CA however the text with the sidebar table seems to indicate it is left to a DM decision. In LG very little is left to a DM decision.

This could be a big issue for some players because in LG access to a weapon like a greatbow or warmace is unlikely to turn up until late in a players career and may well be a one off access. To have a player reinvest 5 feats into a one off access weapon only slightly different to his normal weapon would simply mean people would not buy them. The Ar access would benext to pointless.

That said .... I am happy to make it a table decision. I will just let my players know that if they take advantage of the AR access to one of these weapons they may find some DM's will not allow it.

As long as you bring CV to the table to show the DM the rules, it shouldn't really be an issue.

Keep in mind that some of the Complete Warrior weapons also appear in more recent books, and the rules from those books take precedence. In particular, I'm thinking of the Elven thinblade/lightblade/courtblade, which are designated in Races of the Wild to share Weapon Focus and some other weapon-related feats with a similarly-sized nonracial weapon.
