I know that the LGCS indicates that a druid must select his or her animal companion from the list on page 35 of the Player's Handbook. And, that characters require access to any animal companion not on that list.

So, for example, this means that a druid may not select a serval from Sandstorm as his animal companion, correct? The Blight on Bright Sands Sourcebook does not accommodate these creatures in regards to druids, either.

So, it is safe to tell a player no, that he cannot have a serval or tryssem as an animal companion, right.

Happy gaming.

If the bright sands rules don't say you can use Sandstorm animal companions you can't. That being said I have played with a serval before and the player was someone I trust so I suspect there are rules somewhere that allow it.

He could have had special access from an AR though...

Even now, the LGCS isn't really written with Sandstorm taken into consideration. The doc allowing the Sandstorm variant says you can use the alternate rules for those classes. Animal companions and spells from Sandstorm go with the Sandstorm druid. The exceptions might be dinosaurs and camels.

The language is not exactly clear, but it reads on page three that, "Sandstorm also presents several alternate versions of existing classes. New Bright Lands characters may elect to make use of some of the of these new options at character creation." And, druid is among those listed.

The phrase "some of these options" is confusing, because I wondered if they meant a player may make use of the articulated options listed (spells, domains, prestige classes, feats and equipment). Or, do they mean a player may make use of the total set of class options for his or her character in Sandstorm?

I think it is the latter - you may use the full complimetn of class rules presented in Sandstorm to create your barbarian, druid, ranger, sorcerer or wizard. And, to go further, once a Sandstorm class option is chosen, the character must advance per the Sandstorm variant.

So, I guess a Sandstorm/Bright Lands druid does get a serval as an animal companion. Now, may a Bright Lands druid take a tressym from the Forgotten Realms as an animal companion, as noted in Sandstorm? I think the answer might be yes.

And a Brightlands character has access to the equipment feats spells etc as outlined in the Blight on Bright Sands Sourcebook

The latest version of the LGCS says (in the FAQ) that a Sandstorm druid may select any of the wasteland companions except the tressym. This seems to mean that they can can take camels or dinosaurs from the list.

So, a Bright Lands druid may take any wasteland aninal companion listed on page 48 of Sandstorm, except the tressym. And, same druid may also take a camel as an animal companion.

No character, however, can buy a camel as a mount. Camels are not native to the area, and druids are considered to have special, divine accommodation in retaining a camel as an animal companion.

Cool, I'm glad we got that cleared up. Happy gaming.

For those who really want a camel there is AR access to Tusmit Warcamels.

However, the disallowance of the tressym was recently contradicted by a Circle member in response to an email from the Nyrond triad. I guess the Circle member was confused or uncertain about the final ruling on the tressym but it does seem curious.
