For instance, in LG I can only purchase scrolls of open spells that are on table 7-26or 25 anyhoose. Therefore, if i buy a scroll of See Invis (arcane 150gp) it is caster level three correct, DC 13 etc... Now here is the tricky part, to cast said scroll (DMG pg238) it has to be the correct type(arcane)ok, i need the correct caster level(3rd) ok, and the pre-req stat(cha 16) ok. But as a bard See Invis is a third level spell and I do not get the ability to cast it (from a slot) until 7th?? Obviously i dont pay 525gp as i can only buy from the list in the DMG, but can i cast it at third, or do i have to wait for 7th?? Does anyone have any thoughts on this proposition?? |

Scrolls don't care if you can actually cast the spell at that moment, they just care about what your caster level is and is the spell on your spell list. So you can use a See Invisibility scroll without failure at 3rd, because that's the caster level of the scroll and bards can cast it. Note that this does allow a Bard to use a scroll of Haste without failure at 5th... |

So you can use a See Invisibility scroll without failure at 3rd, because that's the caster level of the scroll and bards can cast it. Actually, the the caster level of the scroll and the caster level of the person using it both matter. If a 10th level cleric was foolish enough to scribe cure light wounds as a 10th level scroll, a first level cleric trying to use that scroll would have to make a caster level check. For a 3rd level bard using a scroll of detect invis, it's unimportant that you wouldn't be able to cast the spell normally, as long as your caster level is equal to or higher than the scroll's. |
