I have found a pdf file that I have the wizard and sorcerer fill out to keep track of their spells and spells known. I used an old 2nd edition accessory to fill out for my evoker. Also, How do you in particular keep track of spells that have multiple versions, like Prot(Magic Circle) vs. Evil, good, chaos, Law and resist energy, blindness/deafness, Open/Close, Protection from Energy, etc? Do you learn(when you select them to be known ) them as one spell, or more than one spell? Do you have to write them each individualy into the spell book, with the page use and cost/page? Do you prepare them as one spell or do you have to be selective when you prepare them? Thanks, Fred |

Take a look in your Player's Handbook. The Protection / Magic Circle spells have 4 distinct variations (Good, Evil, Law, Chaos), and are listed as 4 different spells in the PHB. So, each version of those spells is a separate spell, and has to be treated as such in your spellbook. OTOH, Open/Close, Resist Energy, Blindness/Deafness, etc., are all listed in the PHB as single spells, with variations on the effect, which the caster selects upon the casting of the spell. So, for each of these, you only need them in your spellbook once for all the varations. As far as what I use to keep track of my spells: I really like the HeroForge / SpellForge shareware programs. |

Protection from Evil is a different spell from Protection from Good as they have two completely separate entries in the PHB. Blindness/Deafness is one spell as it has one entry in the PHB. |

Unless the description of the spell says that you need to make a selection when you prepare the spell, then, yes, you can choose the type when you cast the spell. |
