I don't see anything in the Bear Warrior ability description that states that it changes your type. It does function as polymorph. Does polymorph change your type?

12-24-07, 10:09 PM Huh...one tiny bit of cheese still available to shape-shifers...druids can't do it anymore, but bear warriors still get away with it...can't even use Animal Growth with Animal SHapes, since that is based off the alternate form ability and not polymorph...

It should be noted however that animal growth will NOT work on medium sized bear warriors in brown bear form because in that case they are already under the effect of a magical size increase (bear form is a supernatural ability and therefore magical). So yes to Animal Growth+Black Bear bear warrior (unless normally small size), no to Animal Growth and Brown Bear bear warrior (unless normally large size, only possible for centaurs).

Well to be specific, animal growth would work, but would not increase the size. The medium size bear warrior in large brown bear form would still gain the DR/magic and resistance bonus on saves.

True, but for a 5th level spell, you aren't getting the primary benefits of the spell is the point.

12-25-07, 01:03 PM Note that judging by discussions on Infinite Monkeys, there may be table variation on whether bear form changes your type. The ability says it's similar to the polymorph spell, but not that it functions as the polymorph spell except where noted (and the justification for not clarifying or banning bear warrior when polymorph was banned was that it doesn't directly reference polymorph), and the ability itself doesn't mention a type change anywhere.

I don't have a strong opinion on this one: I'm just pointing out that there is some debate.
