| CrystalBlue07-09-07, 08:27 AM | My Rng 3/Fgt 2/Hoz 4 has a young adult griffon that I'm STILL trying to get to adult (it seems to take a long time...). As a ranger 3, I don't quite qualify for getting animal companions yet. However, I would like to know what the requirements are for getting him there. At some point (next level most likely) I'm going to retrain to qualify for Beast Master. That would make me a Druid 4 for animal companions. With one more level of ranger, it would make it 5. As you can see, I'm doing the math to try to get that griffon as my animal companion. Because, once I hit the APL 12 range, he's gonna be nothing but a tasty treat and a waste of all the time and effort I put into him. I need to buff him up somehow. On a completely unrelated note, I need to know EXACTALLY what happens to a Blindsight character when they're glitterdusted or otherwise made blind. Their Blindsight lets them 'see' out to a range of 60ft. Can they attack things in that range? And if they can, do they get a miss chance still? And what is the Listen DC, normal, of pinpointing a square that someone is in if someone didn't have Blindsight. :D |

It might help if you would descripe the favor which lets you have a young griffon and later take it as animal companion so we can answer that, because normal animal companion list does not include Griffon... You're basically asking what you would have to do to have the griffon as an animal companion? Were you going to go through the Griffon rider's metaorg? Or, did you find some other route? If you choose the metaorg, then just meet all the requirements for it, skills, TUs, gold, etc. You'll need more levels to qualify, however. BTW, one more level of ranger plus one level of beastmaster would make your effective druid level 6. In order to take the griffon, you need an effective druid level of 7. This means ranger 6/beastmaster 1, ranger 4/beastmaster 2, ranger 4/beastmaster 1/some other class (wild plains outrider, animal lord, druid, etc) 1. But, I could be wrong. |
| CrystalBlue07-09-07, 12:41 PM | I planned on going griffon rider...but if that means I have to wait even longer...and my griffon won't start getting extra HD till I'm 14...then I'm not going to bother. I'm just going to be very sad when my griffon dies, I guess... |

If you have blindsight, you can ignore effects of invisibility, darkness, etc. Blindsight allows you to ignore miss chances due to concealment (not displacement). The DC to determine something is making a sound is an opposed listen check (listen vs. move silently) if the listener beats that check by 20 then he can pinpoint its location. More can be found on p295 of the DMG. |

| Iswald07-10-07, 11:14 AM | beastmaster + natural bond will do it for you but natural bond is not core Natural bond can be gained from a Highfolk metaorg, Paths of Enlightenment. There are many different paths, though it's hard to say if any would fit with your PC. Working out the different metaorgs in different regions may be challenging. |
| CrystalBlue07-10-07, 01:42 PM | Thanks for the help, guys. :D Though...to become a griffon rider AND get natural bond...doesn't work out with regions. :P Oh well. And I thought Blindsight nullified invisability. Oh well. |

| CrystalBlue07-11-07, 12:52 PM | Right...I was going "Oh well" because I gave someone their way when they said that blindsight didn't get rid of the 50/50 miss chance for invisible or blind. |
| pedr07-11-07, 01:17 PM | Blindsense allows a creature to pinpoint someone even when they can't see it, meaning that it knows what square the target is in. If it attacks into that square it has a 50% miss chance as it can't actually see the target. This is similar to scent and (I think) tremorsense. Blindsight does what it sounds like - usually through sonics but sometimes some other mechanism a creature with blindsight does not need its eyes to be able to 'see'. Even if it is blinded or something in range of its blindsense is invisible, it can still 'see' them perfectly so there is no miss chance. |
