It would help to get an idea for friends looking for last minute gifts or for us shopping the after Christmas sales. My guess is that PHB2, Complete Mage and Complete Scoudrel will have some fraction of feats and pclasses that become core. The spells from those books will probably stay limited. Most other books (that aren't Eberron or FR) will be allowed into the campaign as Limited with the exception of books that include campaign pervasive material (e.g., Incarnum). The only big question mark for me is the Book of Nine Swords. My expectation and hope is that it's left out of LG. My fear is that it will get thrown in to long term ill effect. While I *love* the mechanics and ideas in BoNS, it has a lot of complex material in it and I have no doubt that LG's cadre of powergamers will find multiple ways to break it. :AMN: |
| Britt12-21-06, 01:09 PM | The books that are most likely to have any new material are P2, CM, and CS. RoD, ToM, and ToB aren't likely to have anything added. |
| CrystalBlue12-21-06, 01:37 PM | Except, of course, the select few of us that already have access to Shadowcaster. Then we get to use 1/3 of Tome of Magic. *grins* |
| Britt12-21-06, 01:40 PM | That's not in the LGCS, though. |
| CrystalBlue12-21-06, 03:17 PM | O.O Well...I know it's not. Only a select number of people got access to it. But I still use the book get my shadow casting and for the rules on Shadowsilk armor. Maybe I'm confused on what you mean, then. It's certainly not core or anything, but I have access to the book now. At least parts of it, anyway. |
| Britt12-21-06, 03:21 PM | Sorry for the confusion-inducing brevity :) The OP was asking what would likely be in the LGCS, i.e. available widely. They were wanting to buy books for people and wanted to know what would be the most useful in LG. I should have ended that last post with a smilie of some kind, sorry :) To make it up :invasion: |
| Japangirl12-21-06, 05:58 PM | Too bad my scoundrelly character is almost retired :weep: . I'm sure I could come up with something cooler than a halfling rogue/sorceror/Invisible Blade/Dread Pirate with a parrot familiar. Well, OK, maybe not. |
| Sieylianna12-21-06, 06:17 PM | Races of the Dragon has far less broken material than CM, so I think the likely direction is a bad sign. Ed |
| Morgen12-21-06, 06:42 PM | Hey Britt, can we get a special cert to allow us to play a Kobold for Christmas? That'd give us a reason to use more stuff out of the Races of the Dragon book! :) |
| Nutation12-21-06, 07:11 PM | I'm sure I could come up with something cooler than a halfling rogue/sorceror/Invisible Blade/Dread Pirate with a parrot familiar. Well, OK, maybe not. You're not allowed to add levels of ninja, so no. |
| Genghis Cohen12-22-06, 02:41 PM | You're not allowed to add levels of ninja, so no.Ninja/Dread Pirate. The Circle needs to give Ninja a second look. |
| Britt12-22-06, 02:42 PM | I'm 80% sure ninja will never be allowed. |
| Genghis Cohen12-22-06, 02:45 PM | I'm 80% sure ninja will never be allowed.What if the character has a peg leg? |
| Britt12-22-06, 02:52 PM | That might get automatic access to dread pirate, but definitely not ninja. |
| CrystalBlue12-22-06, 05:09 PM | I got a group hug from Britt. I'm happy. ^.^ I would get both Complete Mage and Dragon Magic, as well as the new Cityscape book. Cause those look like likely candidates. At least for some things. Also, I'd get PHB 2, just because I know there are a few spells from that thing. Other then that, it's up in the air. |

Most of the stuff helps DM's design cities and npc's. The other stuff assumes the PC's will be staying in a city and can build up contacts. None of this is useful to a player or judge in a living campaign. A mod writer would find cityscape useful but not a player. The PH2 is the one book that I would call a MUST HAVE for the holidays. After that it would be Complete Mage and Complete Scoundrel. Derek |
| Arvagor12-22-06, 06:22 PM | I would get both Complete Mage and Dragon Magic, as well as the new Cityscape book. There's very little in Cityscape that is player-oriented -- 1 or 2 useful spells, most of the feats really don't work in the context of a shared campaign like LG, and the PrCs are nothing that can't really be duplicated by others. Not saying its a terrible book -- there's a wealth of info for writers and home campaign DMs -- just that it's not so good for an LG player. |
| Samwise12-22-06, 11:19 PM | Cityscape has one very useful spell, Impeding Stones, which is a variant Entangle for use in areas without plants. (Brick, stone, or earthen surface.) It has a few decent feats, a few useless feats, and a few feats I consider overpowered. |
| Sieylianna12-22-06, 11:47 PM | I'm 80% sure ninja will never be allowed. I'd say 99.9%. Unless they release an oriental supplement, I don't think we'll ever see any of the oriental classes, because it breaks the precedent. Ed |
