| Kye_Tyrad03-29-06, 11:00 AM | Curiosity has gotten the best of me on this question, but... Can a person make more than one character from the Bright Sands Region? In order to create a character from the SandStorm book you have to play Blood on Bright Sands first, which states...."Players can only play once in this adventure. Multiple participation to the same adventure will be invalidated." So can a person make more than one character from Bright Sands in order to have access to the special features available in SandStorm and if so how can this be accomplished? |
| Arvagor03-29-06, 11:46 AM | No; only characters whose first adventure is COR5-06 Blood on Bright Sands can designate the Bright Lands as their home region. The Blight on Bright Sands Sourcebook says as much at the bottom of page 2. However, you can still play any adventure other than COR5-06 with any character and gain access to Sandstorm items that are listed on those adventure's ARs. Those characters simply cannot designate the Bright Lands as their home region, nor use any of the special options in the BoBS sourcebook. |

The Blight on Bright Sands Sourcebook says as much at the bottom of page 2. And, on p.5 of that document, it also notes that a character that did not start out with Bright Lands as their home region cannot "move" to the Bright Lands later. |
| redgamer03-29-06, 11:55 AM | You can have unlimited bright sands characters but I believe you can only have one character use bright sands special creation rules. |

When I read the Blight on Bright Sands rules, I interpreted the character creation as you could only create a character if you started in Blood on Bright Sands? Now based on the information I have from everyone, if I have a current character (Asherati Rogue) from Blood on Bright Sands, I can still create a Badlands Dwarf or Centaur for running in other mods? |

I don't believe so. Since the Bright Sands sourcbook states that the only way to create a Bright Lands-based character is to start them in "Blood on Bright Sands," as you've already done this once, you can't do it again. If redgamer's saying, "you can play multiple characters in the Bright Sands campaign arc modules", that's correct. But, you can't have more than one PC that's "from" the Bright Lands, according to the rules. |

That is exactly what I wanted to verify with someone....thank you. Then Gateway to Bright Sands is just where an existing outside character needs to start in order to play in the Bright Sands mods? |

Non-Bright Sand Characters can participate in Bright Sand Modules; you just have to be sure to deal with the hazards of the desert when doing so. |

Well, I wouldn't use the word "needs", I don't think. More like, it's the entry to the storyline for non-Bright Lands PCs...but, like with most LG story arcs, you don't have to play all of them, or in any particular order. There's nothing preventing you from jumping into the Bright Sands arc with one of the newer mods...but, if you want to experience the storyline in order, you'd want to start with "Blood..." for a Bright Lands-based PC, or "Gateway..." with a non-Bright Lands PC. Also, note that you have to play "Blood" with a brand-new PC, while "Gateway" is for APLs 2-8. And, it doesn't look like playing "Blood" prevents you from playing "Gateway", as well, even with the same PC. |
| Greyson03-30-06, 12:07 AM | Hey, all. I just want to confirm that the only way any player in the Living Greyhawk campaign can have a Bright Lands/Sandstorm character is to begin a new, 1st-level character in the COR5-06 Blood on Bright Sands adventure. And, as noted above, you may only play this adventure once. Thus, each player may have only one Bright Lands character. Blood on Bright Sands must be that new character's first adventure. Once a character begins a Bright Lands/Sandstorm version of a class, he or she must use that version of the class progression for the rest of its advancement in that class (druid or ranger, for example). Even if you jump into another unrelated class (multi-class or prestige class) and return to the Bright Lands class, the character picks up the Bright Lands/Sandstorm version. I encourage people to try out a race, or class, or both as allowed from Sandstorm. And definitely play the adventures in the arc. It's been a lot of fun. Happy gaming. |
| pedr03-30-06, 05:09 AM | In my recent re-reading of the Blight on Bright Sands Sourcebook and the Fastplay characters I came across one interesting fact: it appeared to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Fastplay characters can be started in any BoBS adventure, not just in Blood on Bright Sands. IIRC, they all have a home region of 'Bright Lands' and take advantage of some of the unique options. Of course there's a downside as they're not built in the way that most people would choose and you are stuck with all their choices, but this seemed a way to get another character with Bright Lands as its home region, albeit a cookie-cutter one. |

My gut-reaction was, "Yeah, you're wrong." Then I went looking for what you might be referring to, and found the same thing on page 2 of the BoBS Sourcebook. So, now I'm confused. :) David |
| paigeoliver03-31-06, 06:48 AM | Oooh, there it is right there. I'm kind of glad too. I started a Verbobonc character in BOBS and kind of regretted it later. Now I can start a fastplay character in one of the other ones. |
| paigeoliver03-31-06, 07:05 AM | Scratch that, after looking at the Bright Sands fastplay characters I wouldn't want any of them. They all have 2 odd stats (usually 2 stats that aren't ones you would have normally level bumped either) and every one of them pretty much wasted all of their feats on esoteric desert feats that are pretty much useless outside of Bright Sands adventures. |

Heat Endurance B*, Sandskimmer*. int 13 makes it possible to go for combat expertise, so give him some fighter levels and enough rogue levels to keep sneaky skills on moderate level. sandskimmer is a little exotic, but fitting for the story arc. character 2: Scablands half-orc, male Barbarian 1 Str 16, Dex 11, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 9 Blazing Berserker*, Heat Endurance B yea the charisma points are a waste, otherwise the built will get along, not the ultimate berserker built but playable. character 3: Human (Flan) Druid 1 Str 10, Dex 11, Con 13, Int 12, Wis 16, Cha 12 Great Fortitude, Scorpion’s Resolve* this one is really a mess, two odd stats and especcially hurting ones. and the feat selection is horrible, two feats that do nothing but bump saves. charactr 4: Human (Suel) Sorcerer 1 Str 10, Dex 10, Con 13, Int 13, Wis 12, Cha 16 Toughness, Draconic Heritage (Brass) same as the druid, a mess, only the draconic heritage is promising. character 5: Human (Suel) Ranger 1 Str 13, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 10, Wis 13, Cha 10 Blooded*, Desert Fighter*, Track, favoured enemy: goblinoids again odd stats, this time you might consider filling them up to even numbers one-by-one. character 6: Half-elf Cleric (Vathris) Str 12, Dex 8, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 16, Cha 12 Vathrin Stigmata, domains: thirst and destruction not a power gamers cleric but doable. so, as a conclusion, i would give four of the six characters a try, only the druid and the sorc seem totally spoiled to me. as these are the only way to create ADDITIONAL bright sands characters you have to accept the them as they are. ciao martin m. ps: strangely enough, the dwarf and the half-orc have to be male, the otehrs are without gender prescription,. any idea where this comes from??????????? |
| mgriffith12306-21-06, 11:35 PM | I'm starting an on-line LG Bright Sands campaign and will be using the badland dwarf. I'm stoked for it! Wouldn't he have one more language due to his Int. bonus, though? |
