Alpha_Nerd 02-08-07, 12:19 AM	My first message to WotC Customer support: In the description of the spell "Inflict Light Wounds" it says that you "channel negative energy" in order to cast the spell. Is the act of channeling negative energy in order to cast Inflict Light Wounds equivalent to the act of channeling negative energy to rebuke or command undead? I'm not asking if you can cast the spell Inflict Light Wounds in order to rebuke undead, I'm just wondering if you actually channel negative energy when you cast it, or if that is just unfortunate terminology. Their first reply: The two acts aren't equivalent unfortunately. They both do require that you utilize negative energy, but they are in no way equivalent. Good Luck and Game On! I realized I didn't word it to well so I sent this: Hey, I still need a little more clarification if you wouldn't mind. What I was hoping to get is whether or not when you cast Inflict Light Wounds you actually channeled negative energy like you would if you were rebuking undead, or if when you cast Inflict Light Wounds you just use negative energy, not channel it. Their second reply: The channeling of negative energy is essentially flavor text. It will be up to your Dungeon Master to adjudicate this further for you. Good Luck! So it seems that the description is just flavor and you don't actually "channel" negative energy, you just utilize it in order to cast the spell. From what it seems if you're a Neutral cleric rebuking undead is still an evil action, but casting those necromancy spells would not be an evil act.
