Does anyone know how expensive it is to build a dungeon?

Immensely ;) I will see if there is anything in the castle building book. I am curious why you are interested in specific amounts though. Is one of your insane characters planning to build one :P

Why build?
It is so much easier to take one off the hands of some villian who no longer needs it.

I heard that White Plume Montain was coming on the market.

Depends on the APL of your dungeon... all the way up to 16 might be an issue...

Now that would be a good retiring special module, setting up your own APL 16 dungeon, and going off to capture all the nasties to put in it...

I need a dungeon in a specific spot where there isn't one yet. So grabbing one that exists isn't an option.
I sort of intent to spend most of the remainder of the PC's carreer building it, provided I get permission to build it, that is.
It might be fun to retire the PC with a level of dungeon lord ;)
I have a few ideas to reduce cost, like finding spellcasters to help me. May require favors or other PCs spending TU so this may not be that easy.
But it'll be a challenge to try. I don't think any other PC has ever build a dungeon yet...

*G*, my druid - who is far from retirement - had thought about "landscaping" a part of the hollow highlands, but i haven't yet come up with a real plan, was more out of annoyance when i found out that even the villages and what goes for towns in the hollow highlands would not be to positive to have a druid with his "petting zoo" in town :D

and i would need some "closed" spells to be cast somehow, or maybe after retirement - you know, awakened trees and animals make far better company then some stubborn townsfolk :P

anyway, nessy can ask chromos for help, shape stone is on the druid's list and earth elementals make perfect excavation teams.

Spells like those (especially the earth elementals) were stuff I thought of. Thoquas or xorns may also work. I am unsure how fast they excavate though. I'll need to determine the number of spells used.
Excavation costs some money but is not really the problem (about a hundred 4th level scrolls will get it done if I really need to do it myself). More expensive is getting reinforced walls, doors, stairs, and furnishing. And then the traps, secret doors, false corridors and whatever I can imagine, and a number of ultra-special features we'll need to let the dungeon 'function'.
As to getting help: she (yes, it's Nes) will cast about for it when she knows if she can actually build it (which is not certain at all). She needs be careful as not everybody may support why she is building it. And I have to figure out how 'hiring' will work, metagame wise.
Some stuff may be difficult. Permanency is closed, for instance. But permanent spell effects by themselves (i.e. a permanent alarm) are not. So I 'merely' need access to such an effect ;)

Stronghold Builders Guide is probably your best stopping point.

Look up the latest LG RHoD FAQ for a good indication of the prices you're looking at (over 50k gold for a decent structure).
