| JJeff06-26-06, 01:20 PM | I'm sorry if this is obvious from the rules, but I don't know if I've got it right. I'll be DM-ing a module that has a person hire the players to do the adventure (main starting plot twist)and gives them a line of credit in the local store. This means that the players can buy things (standard things from the PHB, but can be masterwork items) from the store for free and the patron will pay for them. I do assume these items will 'disappear' after the adventure is over and the players cannot keep them since I feel it is too powerful for players to get free Masterwork weapons and such and get to keep them. Second qn: What if there is a store in-game that lists items with prices? I assume this is handled as if the player bought the items after the adventure (except for the fact they may not have enough gold since they would not have recieved all the gold from the module) Thanks in advance. Please reply soon so that i can ready myself for a mass shopping spree by my players. |

Nope, it's just free how high is the credit line anyway? i wouldn't mind something like apl/4 x 100 gp. It seems to be not stated but there is a clause that says that if the players misuse the credit line and buy things not needed for the mission they are sent on, the limit is a flat 350. sometimes characters get stuff for free therefore the "found" column on the MIL. just make notes that the characters can never SELL those items. Just doesn't seem right... I hope someone recognised what I am describing from a previous game and has run this module before can tell me ciao martin m. Thanks, but I would most likely declare it as rental or something. |

| JJeff06-26-06, 10:27 PM | 350gp each. The problem is that the items listed that is available for purchase is: - Anything from the PHB (normal and masterwork) except half-plate and full plate and anything from the Goods table that is 50gp and under.. I'll just ask for a list of items that the players want without telling them what is available and vet anything too powerful out by declaring a lack of stock... |

If the module is a regional module, ask the appropriate triad. If the module is a core module, send an email to the Circle member incharge of Core Modules (C. Broadhurst). If the module is a metaregional then I doubt it supports APL 2, but in practice I would email your Circle representative (you could also ask your triad). They will tell you how it's supposed to be run and you won't have to guess, James |
| kenobi6506-27-06, 11:09 AM | If the module is a regional module, ask the appropriate triad. If the module is a core module, send an email to the Circle member incharge of Core Modules (C. Broadhurst). It's a core module...and the author of said module even posts on this board regularly. :) (I recognize the situation, having run it for my group...) |
| JJeff06-27-06, 12:49 PM | In that case, how did you manage the situation, Kenobi? I'm doing it as rental gear... Is this right? |
| kenobi6506-27-06, 02:13 PM | In that case, how did you manage the situation, Kenobi? I'm doing it as rental gear... Is this right? Well...I may have been wrong...but the module really sounded like it was, essentially, gifts, and I let them have it, in addition to the GP from the module. That said, fortunately, my players weren't abusive (they went to the other extreme, in fact...most of them took fairly little). |
| JJeff06-27-06, 09:22 PM | Well, if you ran it, you should know why I'm worried. They can ask for any masterwork weapon or armour short of half-plate/full plate and that is basically unlimited amounts of 300gp++ 'gifts'.... It's a bit wierd on the MIL if you get free items.... |
| zigspatty06-28-06, 12:20 AM | ..... They can ask for any masterwork weapon or armour short of half-plate/full plate and that is basically unlimited amounts of 300gp++ 'gifts'.... It's a bit wierd on the MIL if you get free items.... Those items are "free" in the same way that all of that gold and other loot gained by adventuring is "free" - at the end of the adventure, their value is still counted as part of your treasure. If an employer gifts you with a nice 350 gp mw chain mail shirt to ensure that you're appropriately outfitted to do your job, that's terrific. It enables even a low level parties to have the basics needed to be successful. But, at the end of the adventure, you'll be limited to theamount of gold listed for your APL; if you play at APL 2 that's 450 gp, even if the employer gives you 350 gp and your 1/6 share of the other spoils is 500 gp..... You can roleplay that you keep the chain shirt as your share of the treasure or give it back taking your share wholly in gold instead....(all while paying a heavy tax bill and wondering why you keep letting the barbarian do your negotiating when you sell everything.) The good thing about such an expense account is that consummables like oil, rations, torches, ink, etc that can't be returned won't be subtracted from the treasure you gain, and you'll be more likely to have "over the cap gold" that can be used for NPC spellcasting. | JJeff06-29-06, 09:38 AM | Thank you all, I was just afriad that the items would be considered purchases and recorded on the Master Item List as though they were purchased between adventures except that it was free. |
| solbergb06-30-06, 08:11 PM | If the module is a metaregional then I doubt it supports APL 2, but in practice I would email your Circle representative (you could also ask your triad). Most of our metaregionals (NMR) support APL2. It is an artifact of IUZ and probably some other (VTV?) metaregions that they are all high APL. Not all metaregions do it that way (regionals for baby characters, metaregionals for high level, interactives for both). Some stories actually can scale from 2-16...just like second half of the bright land arc. Where I live, the regionals have a mix of low, med and high stuff (above 12 is limited to 1/year I think) and the metaregionals also have a mix. That can also vary within a metaregion (Nyrond for some reason is doing all low level regionals in year 6, even though the metaregionals include low level play in about 2/3 of the modules and even the highish ones are still apl 6+) |
