KShaver 08-10-07, 02:20 PM	The pony/warpony is also a common riding or pack animal for a small character, but they aren't as tough as a riding dog so you don't see nearly as many around.
trollbill 08-10-07, 10:08 PM	The difference being that a pony/warpony is Medium, while a mule is Large. But I don't recall anything in the rules that restricts the maximum size of a mount, only the minimum. And certainly humans are capable of riding elephants.
mowaca 08-10-07, 10:31 PM	- If you attempt to ride a creature that is ill suited as a mount, you take a -5 penalty on your Ride checks. - You can’t use fast mount or dismount on a mount more than one size category larger than yourself. This all seems to indicate that more than one size category larger than yourself is ok, its just harder to make ride checks.

Or perhaps a guard dog can be used as a pack animal for small humanoid races? Your primary concern is using them as a pack animal? There are no restrictions of any sort in that regard. Some judges may recommend that you have a step ladder of some sort to load them, however.
clannagh 08-13-07, 07:24 PM	In reality the only RAW difference is you cannot fast dismount if you actually try and ride one rather than use it as a pack animal. In addition expect table variation on whether your GM deems a large mount as sufficiently unsuitable to incur the -5 on ride checks.
