Some_call_me_Tim 11-26-06, 05:38 PM	The LGCS (p. 70) clearly states "Q: Is the Caster Level of an item a prerequisite for making it? A: Yes. You must have a caster level equal or higher than the one listed to create a magic item." However, the DMG errata changed the caster level section of the DMG as shown below: "For potions, scrolls, and wands, the creator can set the caster level of an item at any number high enough to cast the stored spell and not higher than her own caster level. For other magic items, the caster level is determined by the item itself. In this case, the creator’s caster level must be as high as the item’s caster level (and prerequisites may effectively put a higher minimum on the creator’s level).For other magic items, the caster level is determined by the creator. The minimum caster level is that which is needed to meet the prerequisites given." Note that prerequisites is another section of the magic item description and does not include caster level. (see p. 43 of the D&D FAQ for confirmation). Now, in light of this change is LG using a variant rule or was this missed in previous updates to the LGCS? The polymorph errata not being adopted to LG specifically calls attention to itself stating "Note that all other official errata is used, unless an exception (such as this one) is noted." The caster level errata does not explicitly state this. So, it seems to me that either the caster level question and answer need to be amended to state that it too does not follow the official errata or the LGCS has to be changed to eliminate the explict caster level requirement for magic item creation.
