Character creation.. less sources? [Archive] - Wizards Community

For example: rather than reference the Gazateer (is it even still in print?), could we simply list the available languages for starting LG players out here? I know there's been confusion regarding Greyhawk languages. Are Flan, Ancient Flan and Ur-Flan all the same, not, partially? Clairification for what's what in LG would be helpful here and this seems the best document to have that clarification.

Likewise you may wish to look to modify some of the language dealing with clerics and paladins in the character creation section that references the dieties document. It should not mislead players into thinking they can make such characters without referencing the LG specific rules therein (ie Paladins can only choose dieties near LG, Worshipers must follow race rules, etc).

Perhaps such rules items would have a better home in the LGCS rather than a separate document?

Or on the other hand a 'Character Creation Guide' document might be a better idea to have.

Regardless it should be as much of a one stop shop as possible.

well, the only sources you NEED to create an LG character is the PHB and the LGCS. everything else is just frosting and sprinkles.

the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer is still in print, but WILDLY outdated in its content. if it does go OOP, it would be great to see the information on Languages and Human subraces reprinted in the LGCS.

but i'm not really holding my breath for that one.

now that you bring this up, though, i'm not sure that the line "See the campaign website for a complete list of languages." is applicable anymore or not.

02-02-06, 01:50 AM It seems like most online retailers list the Gazetteer as being out of print. And for that matter, aren't MOST RPG products out of print the minute they come off the presses? How many items other than the core rulebooks actually sell well enough to merit multiple printings?

02-02-06, 01:52 AM The paragraph about clerics and dieties needs to be rewritten. It suggest the dieties document has no description of the dieties. It does not mention Favored Souls and does not say if a Paladin can be a palidin of a non Lawful Good diety.

technically, yes, that would be what the exact meaning of out of print would be... and to be honest there are relatively few books of any genre that generate enough sales to merit multiple printings in the same format.

in practice, though, it doesn't mean that.

i work at a major national bookseller, and i've had no problems ordering the LGG from our distributors.

to keep this somewhat on topic, however, it would be good to see a consolidated list of Greyhawk-specific Languages.

Also, is there a particular reason that the Touv language can only be learned by "new" characters? if the reasoning is due to the touv's rarity in greyhawk, it doesn't make sense, as they are an allowed PC race, though i've yet to meet any other players with a Touv PC.
