I have access to the Mindbender PRC. Its requirement is to be able to cast Charm Person or Charm Person as a spell like ability. Would Charm Monster qualify for this ?

From the SRD

"This spell functions like charm person, except that the effect is not restricted by creature type or size."

It is a 3rd level spell where Charm Person is a 1st. So its basically the next evolution in the Charm Person chain.

I'd say "not in LG" though it's certainly reasonable and would probably be allowed in a homegame.

Consider Toughness v Improved Toughness as a requirement.

I am really wondering. They are part of the same spell chain, but I cant find anywhere where this could qualify.

"Spell Chains

A group of spells, all at different levels, that resemble each other in terms of their effects or results constitute a spell chain. In general, only the lowest level spell in a spell chain will have a full description, with a complete header and complete descriptive text. The higher-level spells in the chain have incomplete descriptions that contain only those elements that differ from the spell at the beginning of the chain."

And Charm Monster does the same exact thing as Charm Person except it opens it up to not just humanoids.

Britt any other Circle ? Or do I need to ask customer service ?

Charm Monster is not Charm Person, just as Delayed Blast Fireball is not Fireball.

If you want to get into Mindbender, you'll need Charm Person.

So how does one gain charm person or charm monster as a SLA?

I'm just curious because of some people proposing mindbender builds within LG.

Well, a rather impractical case I can think of is archmage :D

It's also likely to allow monsters to take the class...

How does the thrall of Mindbender work in LG from game to game? I'm guessing you can't have thralls carry over?

I think your problem is misunderstanding the mindbender pre-req. The special requirement is ability to cast charm person OR use charm person as a spell like ability OR use the charm invocation. So if you can cast charm person then you qualify.

That is correct. It's still a nice class for a one level dip (100 ft telepathy, +1 caster level), but because thralls and "friends" don't carry over between mods, that Charm Monster'ed Minotaur barbarian you diplomacized to Helpful/Zealot won't come join your party after the one adventure you picked it up in.

That is a shame, isn't it? You go to all that work...
