Cheesing the Druid Rebuild [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have a character that gained enough XP to make 5th level on Feb 1. I didn't choose the level, pending the LGCS, hoping for Duskblade. I then found that I had to take my level based upon the old rules. So...no new LGCS 597 for me.

Unless I take a level of druid for 5th level and then rebuild him.

Any problem with this?

Technically, I suppose you could do that, as the level happened before Feb 6th; however, it is definitely contradictory to the spirit of the rule. So, you might get away with it and we might not do anything to someone that does this, but I don't recommend it, nor do I think it is right.

If you do take that level as druid, you will be stuck with at least 1 level of druid in whatever your build becomes, don't forget. Of course with a full rebuild, that's not too bad.

Yeah, it has a "snuck one by..." feel to it, so likely won't. Is a fun thought, though. :)

Considering you could construct a back loaded build like arcane heirophant while virtually bypassing the "dead" levels it would be a wee bit naughty.

Meh, I think the beginning levels of my druid/diviner haven't been too bad thus far. I could see how they could be, though.

Did someone read my mind? Well, I am only thinking about it.

Slightly with the topic, The Dispel Confusion states you cannot swap out crafting or Leadership feats, Can you add them?

Sure you can add MIC feats.

Yeah, my Drd3/Rgr2/BM1/WPO2/HO5 is probably going to rebuild one of five ways. Drd1/Duskblade12 (Dread Spiral access), Drd3/Wiz3/BM1/AH6, Drd13, Drd3/Sor4/AH6 in inverse order of my current preference.

Yes it's a bit cheesy, but considering the character started as a Human Fighter, my stats are a bit out of line for the Druid/Leadership build I've currently got.

Note that the rebuild requires you to use the old LGCS, not the new one. As such, all rebuilds would still be bound by the 3rd level rule, and could still take Lightning Reflexes (as well as other little details).

of course you could rebuild and then retrain at next level up to get rid of them if you wanted

I'm still debating about whether or not I want to go the cheese route with my druid rebuild. I could stick with my regular build with some tweaks, which would be Druid 6/Beastmaster 1/Halfling Outrider 2, or I could go Druid 3/Wizard 3/BM 1/Arcane Heirophant 2. I have access to Natural Bond as well. :D

What should you do? Do the PC in a way that you find fun and interesting to play. Just because you CAN rebuild, does that mean you should?

Just because the wildshaping rules have changed a bit shouldn't mean the character is ineffective or ruined or nerfed.

Of course if you wanted to REALLY "cheese", you build him as a fighter/wizard/whatever class you really want; take the level of Druid as your last level and then play a game at a really high APL and hope that your compatriates bring back your PC's body. Voila...instant high level character in whatever class you'd like. :D

Not suggesting that it should be done (or that I'd do it myself - I only have the one druid character and he's not changing in any major way - his stats and classes are just fine as far as I'm concerned) - just passing comment that cheese can be found where ever you look.

I originally posted this a bit tongue-in-cheek. However, I'm realizing that this is a gouda-esque option for a very large number of characters...essentially anyone who levelled on their last AR, played that game prior to Feb 6, and is willing to build a character with 1 or more levels in druid. It may be late to tighten up the requirements, but I suspect there are going to be a lot of druid dip builds around.

Our local druid girl COULD in fact go druid3/wizzie3/alienist/AHxxx with nat bond, aug summon and rapid spell for good animal companian and insane instant animal and psuedo natural summoning goodness

But I suspect she is likely to pretty much stick to her original straight druid build with very minor feat changes as she actually likes the character and is more a roleplayer than power builder.

All I'm doing is swapping a Wild feat for another feat since I'm not sure I'd use that Wild feat as much as previously imagined. Instead of fighting in Wild Shape with my Animal Companion, I think I'm going to switch tactics and just buff the crap out of her and sling spells at the enemy once I runs out of buffs. But that change is more a result of my last table fought under the old Wild Shape rules, realizing that I'm just not that good a fighter at mid-levels even Wild Shaped, but my snake is when she's buffed right. :D I'm more than happy to restrict Wild Shaping to more utilitarian roles - scouting, sneaking into people's houses & spying on them, fast overland movement, digging out hillsides, etc.

Oh, and a couple of skill ranks, because I don't use the skills I put them in all that much, and I realized I've neglected Spot & Listen for far too long considering my frequent role as a scout for the party. And now racial bonuses won't help. :)

I love my stats where they are, and I'm going to take nothing but Druid levels until she retires, so there is nothing else to rebuild.

I have considered doing this with my main PC - initially as a joke, but more seriously when I realized that I could loose "Master's Touch", which si arather essential spell for my PC.
The later would have ment I couldn't fight with my exotic weapons. I use the spell to qualify myself so I can be versatile in combat - using dagger whips, boomerangs, nets, and a two-bladed sword is darn useful.
Not beimng able to figth with my primary weapon would have seriously crippled the character.
Taking a level of druid (which I actualy consider taking at a '16th' level) would have allowed me to swap out a feat for Exotic Weapon prioficience (at least for the sword). It wouldn't be useful in any other way, but it seriously became an option for a short while.
Luckily the spell stays, so I don't have to do something cheesy (and ultimately not beneficial) just so I can stay remotely effective with at least my primary weapon...

I will change my druid though. I'll make the drastic change to swap out my Sandskimmer feat for something more useful. Haven't decided what feat yet, but compared to Sandskimmer, even Skill Focus (Craft(embroidering)) is more useful...

Yeah, there really weren't a whole lot of Sandstorm Feats that were actually useful, even in Bright Sands mods. That was rather disappointing. Glad the retraining rules exist so I can swap out Desert Fighter for my Favoured Soul.

Of course, switching just one feat is rather drastic...

well you can swap out one feat without a rebuild .. but i suppose the rebuild is free

My badlands dwarf will also be dumping sandskimmer .. with retraining though. It was extremely annoying the way the very first mod gave you the impression the bright sands environmental conditions would be significant (quick sand and unnatural heat everywhere was the impression I got) but they were then ignored. My dwarf is level 6 and NEVER once had a situation he could use sandskimmer.

...going to rebuild one of five ways. Drd1/Duskblade12 (Dread Spiral access)Can you expand on exactly how to get this access? Some of us would really like to try a Duskblade.

More details:
Play the Year 6 Core Special "Shadows of the Dread Spiral", at High tier, and defeat the final encounter, before the slot finishes.

Which is a little hard, because the special was only run at Gencon and the extended premiers. It's not going to be run again.

and as the posted consequences of the core special indicate a permanent area of "shadow plane" on oerth, not many tables made it

who only played the low table, but it was an overall "good" special, and i missed to have my mount "a tiger" jump right in the middle of the "pool", he would so love to have a animal companion with the special ability :)

Heh. If we weren't in a hurry and if my char hadn't been charged with the very responsible talk to close the pool (responsible? Nes?) there's no idea what would have happened. At least I got to summon shadows :)

nobodez, if you REALLY wanted to cheese out the Powers That Be, you could rebuild your guy into a Duskblade12/Druid1... then get yourself killed, and lose the most recently taken level. Which, in your rebuild, just happened to be Druid.

I'm not advocating that. Just saying. :schemes: ;)

I currently have a Drd5/Master of Many Forms4/War Shaper1.

I am considering the following build:

Drd3/Warmage4/Arcane Heirophant3. Will use practiced spellcaster for the Warmage

I like the of arcane offense of this build. I will use the the druid spells for buffing and healing.

There is my cheese.
