| Saracen04-17-06, 02:50 PM | I recently received access to magic items from the Miniatures Handbook (MH) and I noticed that none of the Wondrous Items have weights assigned. For the obvious stuff (cloaks, belts, etc.) I can compare against other items of the type in the DMG but for some items there is not comparable: * Collar of Command * Exploding, Sleeping, Stunning Spikes * Field Provision Box (Also, no dimensions given, like if I wanted to put it in a Heward’s Handy Haversack or Bag of Holding). * Magic Sleeping Bag * Scepter of Obedience * Shirt of [DR granting] I filled out a Knowledgebase form as per the LGCS 596 CY to get an answer and their response is that it is up to our DMs (meaning you all) to determine the weights of these items (see below). So what is our campaign ruling on this? Response (Zephreum H.) 04/16/2006 12:14 PM Thank you for contacting us. Since these items weights and capacities are not covered in the rules, it is up to the DM to rule on this. Take Care! Zephreum. Customer Service Representative Customer (Bryan Blumklotz) 04/15/2006 09:49 PM No weights for magic items in the Miniture's Handbook. Hello, I know that weight has no meaning in D&D miniatures rules but Living Greyhawk uses some of the magic items from the Miniature's Handbook. What are the weights of the various items? Cloaks are easy, just compare to other cloaks. But, what about the Magic Sleeping Bag or the Feild Provisions Box? For that matter what is the dimensions of a Field Provisions Box, could I put it in a backpack, Heward's handy haversack, or Bag of Holding? Thanks, Bryan Blumklotz Thanks, Bryan Blumklotz AKA Saracenus RPGA# 809563 |

| Saracen04-27-06, 12:17 PM | Chris, Thanks for the reply. I guess those items will have permanent table variation because according to CustServ, its the judges call and they are not going to publish errata on this. Could Triads giving access to these items set the weights on the AR so at least there are consistent rules within a region? Bryan Blumklotz AKA Saracenus RPGA#809563 |
| Arvagor04-27-06, 02:43 PM | I don't remember the details of each item, but I would go with the following... * Collar of Command - There is a collar of obedience with similar functionality in Complete Adventurer, no weight there either; assume like a necklace and essentially weightless * Exploding, Sleeping, Stunning Spikes - Could, unfortunately, be anywhere from piton (0.5 lb.) to crowbar (5 lbs.) size. If you have it, check out Heroes of Battle; I seem to recall that there are spikes of some kind in there as well... * Field Provision Box - No ideas at the moment... Compare to other "unlimited" food items? * Magic Sleeping Bag - Essentially, this is a bedroll, so 5 lb. * Scepter of Obedience - From the DMG: "Rods are scepterlike devices ... weigh approximately 5 pounds" * Shirt of [DR granting] - Do they give any description of general make (e.g., "silken", etc.)? If it's that kind of shirt, then I'd guesstimate 1 lb., tops (esp. since the average full outfit of clothing from the PHB weighs ~6 lbs.; the peasants' outfit only weighs 2...) |
| paigeoliver04-27-06, 05:27 PM | I have a few mini's handbook items. I just assigned them weights based on similar items like Arvagor just did. I doubt you are going to encounter many (or any) GMs who would spec them much different than that of similar items. I also ALWAYS bring a donkey or mule along, which pretty much lets me carry whatever I want. They are only 8 GP, well worth buying for extra carrying capacity, and for the bit of realism as to WHERE the party is stashing all those suits of full plate they strip off fallen enemies. |
