| pedr03-06-07, 02:00 PM | Inspired by confusion in the Multiple Spell-scrolls thread, I have a general question/suggestion: It appears that Dispel Confusions still spell out valid LG rules even if they pre-date the latest LGCS unless they are contradicted by the LGCS. It is less clear what other miscelaneous rulings this applies to, and which it does not. I realise this might end up being more work for someone and might be inspired by my lawyerly love for certainty, but it would be easier if it were made perfectly clear what the status of each ruling is so that this kind of query is easier to answer. This is particularly true when a new LGCS removes a previous ruling. 596s removal of the LGCS passage over-riding the boilerplate in reference to GP awards playing down, and 597s removal of the 'CL is a pre-req for casting' spring to mind. I actually think that if things were spelled out more clearly in one place (perhaps a set of notes to accompany the LGCS intended for those who are transitioning from the old to the new, to avoid the actual text of the LGCS being bogged down) then Britt and others would have to spend less time answering such questions in the months following a rules revision. One solution would be to have two documents: an LGCS which is definitive in its description of the campaign rules and sparce and short where possible and which is only updated once a year; and an LG FAQ which has numbered rulings clarifying points of interaction between the core rules and the LGCS and which can override the LGCS where necessary. Dispel Confusions could amend the FAQ and a new FAQ would be published with each DC. When the LGCS is revised, the FAQ would be revised as well and a clear list of additions and deletions could be posted so it's clear that, for instance, the 'you can only put one spell on a scroll' ruling was or wasn't still in effect. As I said, perhaps this looks like a lot of work. I'm pretty sure it would end up being less work than Britt is doing at the moment trawling these boards and answering our sundry questions (for which we are extremely grateful, naturally, Britt... there just might be a more efficient way of doing what you're doing.) |

I'd also need a compilation of all past rulings in one place so I could cull them, which I don't have time to do until mid-May (2 seminars this semester, plus Circle stuff). |

Britt, if you weren't aware, the very cool David Baker of The Pale (and mod author; COR3-04 among his writings) has maintained this page for quite some time: Circle Rulings as of Feb 3, 2007 (http://www.theocracyofthepale.com/gamerules/circle_rulings.html) Hope that helps. |
