How does the Spell Enhancer spell from the Spell Compendium affect the necessary caster level to create or upgrade a Wondrous Item, such as a Cloak of Resistance?

I have an 11th level wizard (one mod away from 12th) with the Spell Enhancer spell and no current access to a Cloak of Resistance +4. When I hit 12th level, could I use Spell Enhancer to affect the Resistance spell needed for Cloak of Resistance, thereby increasing his caster level to 14 for that spell, thus crafting the item with a caster level of 2 greater than the pre-requisites, and thus allowing me to craft it without AR access?

Relevent information:
Spell Enhancer: Transmutation: Sor/Wiz 4: Components V: 1 swift action: Target - You: Duration 1 round
"This spell enhances the next spell you cast, making it more difficult for targets to resist. The next spell you cast this round is cast at +2 caster level, and its save DC increases by 1."

From the LGCS (Craft Wondrous Items):
"Items over 2,500 gp that the caster cannot purchase may be crafted if the caster's level exceeds the minimum item creation level by 2 and all other prerequisites are satisfied."

From the Cloak of Resistance description, DMG:
"Faint abjuration; CL 5th; Craft Wondrous Item, resistance, creator's caster level must be at least three times the cloak's bonus"

Thank you in advance for your response.

Well let's see here. Your crafting an item that cost 16000 gold. Cut that in half for your crafting cost is 8000gp.

That means it will take you eight days to craft the item. In Living Greyhawk terms that would be two TU's to craft it.

Your spell lasts for 6 seconds. No, it does not work. Unless you can somehow make it last another 115199 rounds.

How does the Spell Enhancer spell from the Spell Compendium affect the necessary caster level to create or upgrade a Wondrous Item, such as a Cloak of Resistance?I'm not Circle, but I'd say it doesn't enhance the crafting experience at all.

When crafting an item, you don't actually cast the prerequisite spells at some point during the casting process, rather...The act of working on the item triggers the prepared spells, making them unavailable for casting during each day of the item’s creation. (That is, those spell slots are expended from his currently prepared spells, just as if they had been cast.)So an effect that effectively instantaneously enhances cast spells is going to have no effect on spells that must be still in their "slots" in your mind, so to speak, and are removed during crafting.

IMO, you need something -- such as an orange prism ioun stone -- that can affect your caster level on a continual basis, to get the effect you're looking for.

(Merely to expand on what has been said...)
In other words, it is YOUR Caster Level (CL) that is relevant for most Magic Item Creation (MIC). The CL of the spell is not relevant.

DMG explains how multiple caster could work together. Only one of them needs to supply each prereq - Feat, Caster Level, Spells, XPs, etc. So if one MICer had enough CL, the other one supplying all the spells could be 1st level. Naturally, this doesn't matter in LG since cooperative MICing is forbidden.

But in LG, one can still use scrolls (with or without Use Magical Device) to MIC. The scrolls are typically at the minimum caster level for the spell. The MICer provides the CL, and the scroll(s) provide the Spell prereq.

Of course, if the item's prereqs had said something to the effect of "Resistance at a CL of 3 times the bonus", then your answer would have been different. But as you indicated, the CL=3*bonus and the Resistance spell are separate prereq's.

Thanks, everyone (Chesspiece, especially), for your answers. I suspected it wouldn't work, but I was hopeful...

Time is based on market value, not your cost. 16,000=16 days=4 TUs in LG.

Yes, your correct. My mistake.

A more possible solution would be using sanctum spell for the +1 bump when crafting in your sanctum.

I ran that past my triad a while ago and they were of the opinion that sanctum spell yielded no such benefit. I also wanted to try using sanctum spell to craft wands while out of sanctum (where they are treated as effectively one level lower!), but that also was poo-poo'd. So I have to wonder why the feat isn't simply NPC only. Unless one is scry-teleport ambushing then it has no potential value.

A more possible solution would be using sanctum spell for the +1 bump when crafting in your sanctum. As has been pointed out by chesspiece and myself, it doesn't work because you're not actually casting the spell when you craft something. It is your caster level that determines whether an item can be crafted or not, not a particular spell's caster level.

As far as sanctum goes, it seems like it might have little benefit in a living campaign, but as it is possible for PCs to own land/homes/mage towers in some regions, it is conceivable that a benefit could be derived -- one more question from commune, for example (I have seen one question make a difference), or one more day for the purposes of restoration, etc.
