| Genghis Cohen02-06-06, 05:16 PM | I'd like to see a small chart in the LGCS stating the prices for cold iron, silver, and adamantine arrows. This would be very helpful as only the price of cold iron is clear. Such a chart could also include the prices of Limited Access arrows, from Races of the Wild, made in these three metals, as appropriate. |
| Arvagor02-06-06, 05:40 PM | I'll second that; the FAQ is still not entirely clear on this point... |
| solbergb02-06-06, 05:53 PM | Third it. Every time I buy arrows I re-read the FAQ, come up with three interpretations and pick the most expensive one. Since the cost differences are nickle and dime stuff, it never mattered much but it would be nice to just have it spelled out, without having to look in three sources and a FAQ and scratching your head. |
| Mommy was an Orc02-06-06, 08:13 PM | I'm not sure what the confusion is - ammunition is priced per arrow in DMG 283-285 and how much masterwork costs is priced on page 122 of PHB. The one funky one is Cold Iron, but they have an example of how much a +2 Longsword should be priced and they don't double anything other than the base weapon cost. Does something conflict with these costs? Cold Iron? +1 gp/20 arrows(double cost as per DMG 284) Masterwork? +6 gp/arrow(300 gp/50 as per PHB 122) Enchanted Cold Iron? +40 gp/arrow(2000 gp/50 as per DMG 284) Silver? +2 gp/arrow(page 285 of DMG) Adamantine? +54 gp/arrow(automatically masterwork as per DMG 283) Enchanted +1? +40 gp/arrow(2000 gp/50) Enchanted +2? +160 gp/arrow(8000 gp/50) and so on... |
| Maesto02-06-06, 10:50 PM | The table is use is as follows: Normal, 1gp/20 arrows Cold Iron, 2gp/20 arrows Silver, 21gp/20 arrows Adamantine arrows are +60/arrow, which _includes_ the cost of masterwork, so: Adamantine, 1201gp/20 arrows I don't bother with masterwork or enchanted arrows, as they no longer stack with the bow's enchantment. |
| Mortepierre02-07-06, 03:57 AM | Does something conflict with these costs? Cold Iron? +1 gp/20 arrows(double cost as per DMG 284) Masterwork? +6 gp/arrow(300 gp/50 as per PHB 122) Enchanted Cold Iron? +40 gp/arrow(2000 gp/50 as per DMG 284) Silver? +2 gp/arrow(page 285 of DMG) Adamantine? +54 gp/arrow(automatically masterwork as per DMG 283) Careful. The FAQ states: When buying ammunition using the special materials from Chapter 7 in the DUNGEON MASTER’s Guide, is the cost given to upgrade a single piece, or do you get twenty pieces, as you do when buying nonmagic ammunition? For example, do twenty adamantine arrows cost 61 gp (twenty arrows for 1 + 60 gp for adamantine ammunition), or 1,201 gold pieces (twenty arrows for 1 +60 gp per arrow for adamantine ammunition)? The ammunition prices for special materials are per piece. A single adamantine arrow costs 61 gp. Twenty such arrows would cost 1,220 gp (not 1,201 gp). and You pay +2,000 gp each time you enhance the [cold iron] item, not for each magical property. When you first create the item, you add +2,000 gp on top of the cost of all other enhancements you add to the weapon, and that 2,000 gp increases only the item’s market price. So your example +1 cold iron frost longsword would have a market price of 10,330 gp (30+300+8,000+2,000). The cost to create the sword would be 6,330 gp (30+300+4,000+2,000) and 320 XP (1/25th of the 8,000 gp cost for the enhancements). The sword would take 8 days to make (the 8,000 gp divided by 1,000). If you later went back and added another +1 enhancement, you’d have to pay the extra 2,000 gp again. |
| Mommy was an Orc02-07-06, 02:20 PM | Careful. The FAQ states: I got an answer from Andy Collins about it here (http://p198.ezboard.com/fgameschat19968frm12): Dunno where that number comes from. The answer starts off on the right foot, but ends up in a weird place. A single adamantine arrow should cost 60 gp + the price of one arrow (5 cp); 20 should cost 1,201 gp. I'll send a fix along to the web team for the next FAQ. |
| Mortepierre02-07-06, 03:40 PM | Joy! My always-poor archer rejoices at this news :dancin: |
| Rawveggie02-07-06, 07:26 PM | I got an answer from Andy Collins about it here (http://p198.ezboard.com/fgameschat19968frm12): Which is handy for people in home campaigns and for me, since I didn't know that. Unfortunately, it is the FAQ that governs the rules for item purchases in LG (unless something was mentioned that I missed which changed that). -Raw |

| Mommy was an Orc02-07-06, 08:25 PM | While it does govern item purchases in LG, the FAQ entry clearly states the price for arrows in two ways: 1) A single adamantine arrow costs 61 gp. 2) Unless stated otherwise, any time an item cost modifier is provided for ammunition, it applies to each piece. It never states how it arrived at the 61 gp figure, which is probably how the error crept in. So there's three possible interpretations of the FAQ now: 1) There's some mysterious reason arrows bought singly cost 1 gp each. So a Silver arrow costs 3 gp each. This is contradicted by the pricing of Cold Iron arrows in the FAQ item. 2) A single adamantine arrow costs 61 gp and this is an example of being stated otherwise. So while an adamantine arrow might cost 61, a silver arrow should still cost 2.05 gp. 3) A single adamantine arrow could cost 60.05 gp as the 2nd paragraph of the FAQ is quite insistent that it is ammo+material cost and an arrow only costs .05 gold. I think 1 can be clearly thought of as being wrong. In a normal game, 3 is the obvious choice as it is simply a math error. 2 isn't that different from 3 and it solves the pricing of a silver arrow - and works given a literal interpretation of a FAQ required by LG... Which is handy for people in home campaigns and for me, since I didn't know that. Unfortunately, it is the FAQ that governs the rules for item purchases in LG (unless something was mentioned that I missed which changed that). Unless they clear it up in the FAQ later and they change 1220 to 1201 and the LGCS says 1220 or worse that silver arrows are 3 gp each. Four, five, six lines of text. That's all you need to clear up a lot of confusion. It's worth it. |
