I have a question in regards to cohorts.

Why do they get 50% xp/gold? Why not use the core rules?

cohorts are not as "powerful" as PCs (starting with 22 points/ now elite array) or as well-equipped (starting with NPC gold). thus they are expected to be less of a contribution to a table.

while this may or may not actually be the case, it's largely academic, as the main focus of LG is (and should be) the PCs, and not their followers.

also, using the core rules (which if i recall is that cohorts get a percentage of their master's xp based on the level difference... it's been so long since i've used the core rules for cohorts) would be a minor paperwork headache, or a huge one for having to undergo an audit or even GM perusal...

The first is reasonable for why they get a fraction, but why not go with the core rules? A little math should not be a reason for not following them.

If math is a burden for you to perform then honestly auditing characters will be problematic irregardless of choosing to audit a cohort.

If we are going to be strictly following core rules, then when we alter from them it should be for compelling reasons. A little difficulty with basic math should not be compelling.

PS: If it is, it should not be difficult to do standard APLs ahead of time with a calculator. For example if you are 8th level with a 6th level cohort you could already calculate 6/8 of APL 6, 8 and 10 rewards.
