| jokem09-22-06, 05:37 PM | Here is the question, several questions actually A 9th lev sorcerer casts Quick Potion twice in succession, using an extend metamagic rod to double the duration to 18 hours. A cleric burns a turning attempt to activate Sacred Boost (maximizes cure spells for one round). Another cleric quickens a Cure Serious using the Divine Metamagic feat placing it into one of the Quick Potion Containers, then casts another Cure Serious as a standard action taking advantage of the second Quick Potion. All this is done just before time to renew spell slots. Do the spell slots kick in 8 hours after the casting or are they blown for the whole next day because they were used too close to the time to renew spell slots? If they are not blown, does it require another meditation period to activate them? Are the Cleric turning attempts vulnerable to the same 8 hour rule? Are the cures in the bottles still maximized for 18 hours? |

When she prepares spells for the coming day, all the spells she has cast within the last 8 hours count against her daily limit. Re: divine spells:Recent Casting Limit (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/divineSpells.htm#divineRecentCastingLimi t) As with arcane spells, at the time of preparation any spells cast within the previous 8 hours count against the number of spells that can be prepared. Reading the various FAQs, etc., you can only effectively prepare your spells once per day, "when your mind is still fresh", but you can still leave slots open to be decided on later in the day. But in the situation you describe, if your preparation occurs in the 8-hour window, then in effect, the slots that you spent don't exist at all, i.e., they are gone until your next preparation period. I'm not aware of any similar restriction on turning attempts; I assume they are simply refilled at your next preparation period. |

| DuctShuiTengu09-22-06, 10:52 PM | Sounds like this could seriously screw divine casters who chose to rememorize their spells at dusk. "Oh, sorry, but all those spells you cast since... a couple hours before noon, yeah, you don't get to prepare anything in those slots today, which is when the second half of this mod takes place." |

Simple solution - don't choose dusk for when you get your spells back :D |

Yes, this is kind of a hose to those clerics whose deities require them to pray for their spells at times other than "first thing in the morning." That said, I don't know that I've ever seen the subject actually come up. |

Do you know how many mods I've played that, clichéd as it sounds, our party was attacked during 3rd watch? What's the cleric or mage supposed to do? "Sorry folks, if you want spells tomorrow, you'll simply have to do without anything for now..." Sounds like this could seriously screw divine casters who chose to rememorize their spells at dusk. This is not an issue that was created by LG; it is RAW, and has therefore been in effect since the 3.5e PHB was adopted by the campaign. Edit: Dug out a copy of the 3e SRD, rules are the same there, so this has been in effect since the campaign actually started... |
