| Rerednaw09-13-06, 04:08 PM | Most of the items you can normally make at level 3, you cannot in LG. That being said, what is the viewpoint on taking this feat at the lower levels? So far I can find a handful of items a level 3 wizard could craft assuming enough cash and the right spells. I'm thinking this feat is better if one would delay to level 5, 6 or even 9 or 10. Opinions? (My LG human wizard is a generalist, and has taken spell focus: conjuration and augment summoning so far as his feats.) |

First of all, plan your character out fully. Recognize that this plan may change, but have a plan in place should things not change. Making decisions only as you go will lead you, as it has led many many others, into trouble and regret. Secondly, it seems that you are certain that you want Craft wonderous items. Given the way that it works in LG I can hardly blame you. Consider that this feat is a lock (or must have) in your book and it's just a question of when. Third, you have already considered when the feat will be useful for you. It is not now at 3rd level but rather by 5th level where convienently you get a wizard bonus feat. However this is NOT to say that you need to wait until 5th level for the feat. Why? Well in looking for feats it might be that there is one that you would need to be 5th level to take and that you want both it and craft by the time you are 5th. Thus craft would have to come now, so that the 5th level feat could be taken for the other. Some of your feat choices will be spoken for in this manor.. consider that most Druid's will consider their 6th level feat taken for natural spell as an example (as 5th is the earliest they qualify for it, 6th the first opportunity and that they don't want to have to wait for it). Also due to the nature of LG you may get access to certain feats that will expand your options. Say you chose an 'alright' feat now at 3rd planning on getting the 'uber' craft at 5th but then got access to another 'uber' feat at 4th level that would be perfect to take at 5th. Now you have to chose between two great feats for 5th while being stuck with an 'alright' feat at 3rd. Wouldn't you rather have the two better ones? Sometimes it's better to take a feat that you know that you will want as soon as possible rather than settling for a so so feat now that will then make future feats spoken for as who knows what will come along? In conclusion, plan your character out. If there's not a good, useful feat now then take the one that you know that you WILL want in the future rather than shackling yourself to a so so feat now and denying the space for better to come along later. -James PS: when planning the character out I would consider the metamagic rapid spell as well as the PrC Alienist as both are reasonable choices for you. |

Rapid Spell compared to the other choices seems solid. Done deal. I've only planned my wiz out to 6th. I did not plan to take any prestige class (planned pure wiz build) but I did look at the alienist. The access requirements are a bit tough (requires a triad special). Other than the weirdness factor it seems pretty cool. That and I need to see how the Theocracy treats them...given the disfavor arcanists are already looked upon. Thanks for the tips. |
