| CVedovato06-16-07, 12:06 PM | Previous LGCSs had specific rules regarding the crafting of pearls of power. This is no longer the case so: 1) What caster level is required to craft pearls of power. 2) If I have AR access to a pearl of power level 2, can I craft a pearl of power level 1? |
| pedr06-16-07, 12:12 PM | CL is no longer generally a prerequisite to casting. You can craft a pearl of power you have access to when you satisfy the special prerequisite: "able to cast spells of the spell level to be recalled". As far as I can tell, though, you need access to the specific level pearl you want to craft. |
| CVedovato06-17-07, 02:44 AM | Well the dispel confusion from Feb 2007 says: "Q: Is caster level (CL) a prerequisite for magic item creation (MIC)? A: No, generally. The LGCS does not have a ruling on this issue, so you consult the core rules (the DMG errata, in this case), which say that CL is only a prerequisite if specifically stated so by the magic item, such as for cloak of resistance." But pearls of power have a specific CL requisite in the DMG, CL 17. So since the new LGCS is silent on pearls, the DMG rule of CL 17 is the only answer. CL 17 for a level 1 pearl of power is pretty ridiculous, in my opinion. |
| Franco Un-American06-17-07, 03:27 AM | That's not a CL requisite, that's just the item's CL. The prerequisites for crafting the item are listed after the CL semicolon. The item block works like this: [aura strength] [aura school]; [item's caster level]; [prerequisites for crafting]; [Price] |
| King Kashue06-17-07, 03:57 AM | Indeed. The "Caster Level Prerequisites" mentioned in the Dispel Confusion are of the sort for the Amulet of Mighty Fists. They read in a form like this: "creator's caster level must be at least three times the amulet's bonus" (DMG p. 246). |
| Rerednaw06-17-07, 12:27 PM | Pearls now require access. Unfortunately, unlike stat-boosters, each Pearl level is considered a separate item with distinct access. So POP2 access is POP2 only. My wizard hit level 7 just as 597 came out, so when he lost access just when he was going to be able to craft them. 10 ARs later...he still is looking for access to POP1. Sucks but sometimes that's just how LG works. |

The first sentence under Craft Magic Items in the LGCS 7.5 is You can craft any item for which you meet the crafting prerequisites and which either appears in Appendix 4: Open Items or you have ever (emphasis mine) had access to purchase in the Items Found section of any AR. |

The first sentence under Craft Magic Items in the LGCS 7.5 isBecause prior to LGCS 7, all DMG wondrous items under a certain value were Open to crafters (but not for purchase). So until this year, he had access to craft Pearls of Power (well, some of them, at least); now he does not. |
| Gargoyle11706-18-07, 05:13 PM | I am confused as Suvarov454 is. Do you have to currently have access to purchase an item in order to be able to craft it? That would mean you have to craft it within 3 mods if it is Adventure access. Or Are you able to craft any item any time so long as you have seen access to purcase it it at least once on the bottom half of your AR regardless of the access level at the time you saw it. I thought the latter was the way that it was done. |

| Rerednaw06-19-07, 01:41 PM | It is the latter (I can sort of understand the confusion, but no one is saying otherwise). Correct. If you ever had access on an AR, and you meet the other prerequisites (spells, alignment, race, etc.) you can craft it. To clarify: My wizard never got access to POP1. Under the old rules, in LG only, you could craft POP1 at 7th level. My wizard just hit that level right around when LGCS 597 came out and took out that rule, therefore I cannot make or buy POP1. On the other hand, if he ever takes Craft Magic Arms and Armor, and has a ton of cash, he can create a weapon with almost any enchantment. :) |
