| Newpaintbrush04-05-08, 04:33 PM | I posted this question for Circle members to answer, but they haven't chimed in yet. Anyways, I wanted to get some other opinions in case it takes a while for them to respond. Question re: death in LGCS 7.5 My understanding is that for "Raise Dead" you either pay 5350 (I think) gold pieces, or 5 TUs and as much gold as you have (with a minimum of 2500 gold). So if you died and had 5400 gold, you would HAVE to pay 5350 gold for Raise Dead (you are rich enough, so you must pay). If you had 4900 gold, you would have the option of selling equipment or getting gold from other party members to get 5350 gold total to pay, (edit) OR you could pay 4900 gold and 5 TUs. I think. My question is - if your character DOES die and has, say, 3100 gold, if your character pays 5 TUs and 3100 gold (the LGCS states the character pays a "minimum" of 2500 gold with the implication (I think) that the character must pay all the gold the character can if insufficient funds are available for the full casting of "Raise Dead" - the question is, does the character have to pay the BALANCE of the difference between the amount paid on that module and 5350 gold? (i.e. the character pays 3100 gold right away, but has to pay 2250 gold as soon as possible, maybe even skipping standard upkeep payment to do so?) Or in that example, would the character pay 3100 gold and 5 TUs and have an end to it? Thanks in advance! |
| magebeast04-06-08, 01:31 AM | The way that I've always seen it done (and personally have played it one time) was that I paid all of my post-upkeep cash back towards the remainder of my debt until it was done. I'd love to be wrong and go and be able to correct that because that's a couple thousand gold my sorcerer could put to good use. |
| Huck Pennan04-06-08, 03:04 PM | You have to pay off your debt. The 5 TU's are just a penalty for not having the money right away (opening a line of credit and so forth). No one official... |

Shouldn't that be 5450 gold for the Raise Dead? 5,000 for the GP cost of the spell, and 9*50 GP = 450 GP for the caster's level? A 5th level Cleric spell would appear to need a 9th level Cleric to cast it... Resurrection, being a 7th level Cleric spell, would cost 10,000 GP for the spell plus 70*13 = 910 GP for the caster's level. Total would be 10,910 GP. And those are the costs shown on page 16 of the LGCS, as well. And the way the section on Death, on page 13 of the LGCS, is written, it looks to me as though you pay all your gold-on-hand, as long as it covers at least half the material component cost, up to the full cost of the spell, and, if you are short, you burn 5 or 10 TUs, dependent on the spell, to "pay off" the rest. At that point, since there is no mention in the LGCS 7.5, you are free and clear of additional GP costs. Indeed, reading that section in the LGCS, the next step to take would be to calculate your character's net worth, and see if you qualify for Charity of Friends. |

Thanks, Kinevon, for the correction on spell price. I wrote it off the top of my head. :embarrass And as far as page 13 of the LGCS 7.5 goes - that's EXACTLY how I read it too! I think LGCS 6.0 had players pay off death debts in future mods, but I think LGCS 7.5 does away with it. |
| The_Jester04-10-08, 01:41 PM | Yeah, I've read the new LGCS as removing the debt pay-back. You sacrifice 5TUs and spend that time paying your bills. Which had alot more sting prior to the end of LG. Now you just pay 1/2 and take a TU hit (oh no, not my TUs) and keep playing. |
