| katrick11-28-06, 06:28 PM | in the DMG from memory it states: you can add some or all of your weapons enhancement bonus to AC this bonus stacks with all others.(ie not an enhancement bonus) Q1 does this include the +1 cost of the defending weapon (+1 enh,+1 spec ability for +2 to AC, also other spec. abilities on the weapon)? Q2 does it stack with itself ie two weapon fighting, armor spikes etc :D ? |
| zigspatty11-28-06, 11:53 PM | Listed under the "Magic Weapon Special Ability Descriptions" we find the following: Defending: A defending weapon allows the wielder to transfer some or all of the sword’s enhancement bonus to his AC as a bonus that stacks with all others. As a free action, the wielder chooses how to allocate the weapon’s enhancement bonus at the start of his turn before using the weapon, and the effect to AC lasts until his next turn. So "defending" is a special ability, not an enhancement. It may cost the same amount to buy as a +1 enhancement, but it's not an enhancement and can't add to your AC. If it's a +3 Defending sword, you can choose to add up to +3 to your AC. If it's a +1 Flaming Burst Defending sword, you can add +1 to your AC. So, no to Q1. Normally, bonuses of the same type do not stack, but since the description specifically states that it "stacks with all others", I'd give you the bonus from both if you were two weapon fighting with two defending swords. (I think it'd be cheaper to magic up the armor/shield, though...) It's a little unclear grammatically whether or not "all others" would include an identical bonus from another sword, or if it just means all other kinds of bonuses besides bonuses from a defending sword. So, your mileage may vary on Q2. Patty edit: I probably wouldn't give you the bonus from defending armor spikes unless you were actually "wielding" them (ie. attacking with them). I don't see how you'd be able to transfer the bonus from spikes or any other sheathed defending weapon... |
