| Gargoyle11708-10-07, 05:21 PM | One of my PCs recently acquired a template (Dark, p161 ToM) which gives him the Extra Planar subtype when away from the plane of Shadow. Under the stat block list of changes, it also states that the Environment changes to plane of Shadow. PH Definition of Subtype: "A Subdivision of creature type. For example, humans and elves are both of the Humanoid tyoe, but each of those races also constitutes its own subtupe of humanoid" PH Definition of Extraplanar: "Native to a plane other than the plane on which a creature is present. On the Material Plane, an outsider is an extraplanar creature. On an outsider's home plane, a native of the Material Plane is an extraplanar creature." My character's home plane would then become the Plane of Shadow if I am reading this right. Serves him right for spending so much time there away from the sun I guess. What implications does this have for the PC. Is it affected by a banish spell, etc? Are there any side benefits I may not have considered about this? Is this just fun flavor that will spice up the character, but have no significant game affect? Thanks for the help, Dominic |

Normally you see this on outsiders, but it actually belongs on anyone who isn't on their home plane. You'll see a few effects that trigger on the Extraplanar subtype here and there, but the fact that you're not where you belong and the ability to be banished is the central notion. |

Hosed one of my friends that was a spiked chain trip-monkey that liked to be enlarged. That's incorrect. "Extraplanar" is a subtype, and does not change your base type at all (which remains, likely, "Humanoid") |

There was argument at some stage about raise dead etc not working but I am pretty certian there was a Britt style confirmation that those spells actually do keep working for you. In addition I do not think you can ever lose the template by level drain or death. If you lose a level you lose one of your class levels not the template. |

The template doesn't give it to you, that is the Shadow Caster class. (see Alvin) My Cleric has a former companion who became a Shadow Creature/Shadow Caster. We are waiting for a stressed out GM and then I am going to Dismiss him, which will be really funny, especially when he immediately Plane Shifts back. |

From the Material Plane, you can reach any other plane, though you appear 5 to 500 miles (5d%) from your intended destination."The wording is such that inaccuracy is implied in both directions. |
