| rook113802-02-06, 02:19 PM | Again, this isn't addressed as far as I can tell. From what I've heard/been told, only Flan is listed in the LGJ (not ancient or ur-), and the only reference ancient flan in the LGCS is in the ashrat language section (and a few modules). Can this finally be clarified? Are they seperate languages that exist? If so, which ones are learnable by PCs (I's assume all, since they aren't listed in the LGCS as non-options)? Are they all really just dialects of normal Flan, and thus generally understandable by anyone that speaks flan? Matthew Thompson |
| hoppy02-02-06, 02:30 PM | Agreed. According to the LGJ, Flan is Flan. No Ancient to it. Hoppy |
| SteveMND02-02-06, 02:31 PM | This really needs to be clarified, I agree. Over the course of the last five years, several regions have independantly created Ancient Flan, Ur-Flan and several other 'flan-related' languages, but according to the LGG and other references prior to the introduction of the Bright Sands arc, Flan is just plain Flan. If "Ancient Flan" is an actual language available in LG, it needs to be clarified in the LGCS as such. If the reference to 'ancient flan' under the asherati in the LGCS is actually supposed to be just plain Flan, that should also be addressed. The several other local regional variations should also be addressed as well. |
| GreySector02-02-06, 02:36 PM | I find it interesting that a language that hasn't changed in quite a while (several hundred to several thousand years, I don't have my LGG handy) can have an ancient version. Ancient Backlunish? Yes. Ancient Suloise? Yes. Old Oeridian? Yes. Ancient Flan? NO! There are no ancient versions of any non-human language that I am aware of. I'll never understand the obsession some people seem to have with adding ancient versions of languages that just don't exist. -Michael Eshleman |

Not to mention, if in LG the asherati were formed during the fall of the Sulm Empire, and the Sulm were a Flan-speaking group, doesn't that mean that the asherati language is (Ancient) Flan? |
| bertman402-02-06, 03:02 PM | Ancient Flan is refered to as a bonus language an Asherati PC can take on p66 of the draft document. Which means it should be a language anyone can study. I would like to see all languages that PC can take listed in one place in the LGCS. And personally I'd like to call it Ur-Flan. Bertman |
