In a wilderness adventure, in the desert specifically, is if possible for the PC's to get lost whilst traveling at night due to low visibility (it's dark outside)? Is there a table from which to roll to determine amount of moon/star light? The rules for getting lost state that if they cannot see 60 ft. at any time thay have to make a survival check DC 14. So if there are no stars or moon out (however that's determined) but they have a bullseye lantern (illuminates 60ft cone and 120ft cone of shadowy light) is that enough no not make them have to roll?

Thanks,
RC

Sorry to bump my own thread, but does anyone have any insight to this problem?

Well, I certainly have ideas about that...

When you're talking about survival to map out the course you're taking, it usually has to do with how nature signifies north. Be it the stars in the sky, landmarks, or other visable trails. However, I would say that in a totally pitch-black night or one with very low visability, you'd have a tough time finding out where you are.

My thoughts would say that you need a radius of said illumination to judge where you are and where you're going. A 60ft cone can give you everything in one direction...but I don't know if it'd be enough to find your way by.

By the way the rule is written, me thinks it just means that you need to have vision out to 60ft, so by the rules, the lantern would be enough.

Or...you can have an Asherati in your party...same difference.
