I'm pretty sure this is one of those questions that rears up every couple of months or weeks, but I did a search via Google and by hand to no avail*, so hopefully someone can give me a quick, official-ish answer and I'll never be confused on it again.

1. Can my druid have an animal companion who knows tricks out of Complete Adventurer, Races of the Wild, or another splat book?

I have read that it is not possible without "campaign documentation" which usually means an AR favor.
But the ambiguity comes up with the fact that "alternate uses for skills" ARE allowed as long as one has the relevant books/pages from the source on hand.

That seems to contradict the requirement for campaign documentation, as I should be able to make use of a new application of the Handle Animal skill to teach a companion animal a splat book trick without needing any more documentation than the pages from CV or RotW or whatever.

If the answer is definitely "No, the animal can't learn those tricks without an AR," okay.
But how about this:

2. It's clear that you can use Handle Animal to "push" an animal or animal companion to perform a trick that it does not know (DC 25, PHB). Can my druid "push" his companion to perform a trick from Complete Adventurer? (Let's assume that I've got CV on hand.) Is this a legal "alternate use" of the Handle Animal skill?

I'm rolling out this weekend with a new animal companion who could make great use of some of the newer tricks. Please help me resolve this soon.
Thanks!

*It did look like Britt answered part of this question with an "I think..." answer in the LG Q&A thread, but it wasn't a complete answer.

Prior to the latest LGCS, you needed AR or Metaorg access to use those tricks.

The current LGCS opened those tricks to everybody (at least for the books mentioned in the LGCS).

With the noteable exception of adding the warbeast template to your critter.

Thanks for the assist guys!
Dominion Over Bright Sands and the imminent war against the Red Hand of DOom will be far easier knowing that my druid can command his dire tortoise to Overrun (trample!), Hold (grapple!), and subdue (nonleth-le!) his enemies. :)

Cheers,
