Where are the rules on wands in the phb or dmg? I can't find them. I can't remember what exactly the rules are to activate a wand. Its something like a caster level check or something? Just tell me what page it is so i can sleep plz

If it's on your spell list, you can use it. That's it.

DMG, page 213: Spell Trigger items

DMG, page 245: Wands

DMG, page 317: Index, where you can look these things up yourself and get some sleep.

i could have sworn it says somewhere you need to make a caster level check or something? Maybe that was for scrolls? ARRRGGGHHHH!

So my friends first level paladin, assuming he has identified it as a wand of cure light wounds, could use the wand without any sort of check?

Yes, that's true of scrolls, but only if you aren't high-enough level to be able to cast the spell in question. (DMG, p. 238)

Yup.

Note that UMD rules are different and independent of normal use rules for these things.

yeah i know, thats what REALLY screws with you. BUT it would be UMD if the wiz trying to use the wand of fireball hadn't identified it yet.

It's only UMD if you use the UMD skill. If you haven't identified it then UMD is the only way you can activate it but being a Wizard doesn't help you at all in that case.

Also remember that if you are a cleric with the Magic domain, you can use almost any wand you find :D
