lod_leader2003 10-30-06, 04:58 PM	I am wondering about the option of playing a psychic character from the Psionic's Handbook. I used to own it, and have been thinking about buying it again, because a psionic character sounds like a way different option of playing style, and me? I am far from the norm. :embarrass . Anyways...I was looking through the LGCS (Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook, the newest version) and I couldn't see anything that talked specifically about the psionic handbook classes. I saw that they said a few things, and the main pages I think it would be under are pages 25, 35, and 36. I cannot quite understand this, because the Campaign Sourcebook is so full of technical mumbo-jumbo. Which I could understand if I try, but it is really technical. Anyways... it says that anything under: the Players Handbook v.3.5(PH) Dungeon Master's Guide v.3.5(DMG) Monster Manual v.3.5(MM) Living Greyhawk Journal-Campaign News(found in Dungeon Magazine)(LGJN) is core/ are considered core books. it also lists a bunch of other books on page 25 and say they require campaign documentation for use. so....I noticed that the Psionics handbook is not on that list of core or other campaign documentation. after that, on the top right column, it says: all feats, spells, classes, and prestige classes from any non core book source are broken down into one of four following categories... (I bolded non core). so, I checked out the list of base classes. It wasn't on there, but a lot of extra options were. (You need campaign documentation to use them, of course. I think.) it wasn't there. is it even possible for me to play a psionic character? otherwise, why even make the book unless it was exclusively for HOME PLAY. ?!?!?! It's making me go crazy! Any OFFICIAL help, from people who know for SURE is welcomed. I just need to know if I can play a Psionic character, what the rules would be concerning the play of them, and such. chesspiece 10-30-06, 05:24 PM	Your answer is no. Psionics aren't allowed in Living Greyhawk. The Circle have stated on several occasions that this will not change. But to reference LGCS - you understand that psionics aren't Core, so you don't get automatic access. Since psionic stuff doesn't show up on any of the access lists in LGCS, it is Limited by default. This means that you'd need an AR or a LG-approved reward certificate that gives you psionics. Going to the Living_Greyhawk Yahoo! group, we find the following in the FAQ. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Living_Greyhawk/files/ Q - "When will this old book be added to Living Greyhawk?" A - "Some books not usable in LG:" "d. Expanded Psionics HB - LG does not use Psionics for PCs." As to where else you'd use psionics, Home Play is an obvious option. Like any campaign the DM (in this case, the Circle) decides what is & isn't allowed in the campaign. However, in some of the RPGA's other Living Campaigns, psionics are permitted (Mark of Heroes, Xen'drik Expeditions) - so you might want to look into them. The Circle has said that LG will never incorporate psionics. is it even possible for me to play a psionic character? otherwise, why even make the book unless it was exclusively for HOME PLAY.The books are not produced by WotC for the exclusive use of the Living Greyhawk Campaign. There are other campaigns that let you play psionic characters, notably Mark of Heroes, Xendrik Expeditions, and Living Arcanis, so if you're jonesing to play a Psion (or whatever), you'll need to check those out
RedKnightofKet 10-30-06, 05:34 PM	You can't play a psion in Living Greyhawk - if it isn't explicitly allowed, then it isn't allowed. The RPGA doesn't publish the books - Wizards does. The RPGA uses the books to run organized campaigns, which choose to utilize some non-core books, but not all. There may be other campaigns that allow Psionics, but I'm not aware of what they may be - I would suggest looking at the other campaigns to find out. Psionics being used "just" for home play still leaves a lot of options open. I personally don't care for Psionic rules, but I'm sure it sells fine for "just" home play.
_m_ 10-30-06, 06:50 PM	also, if you were just after a psiony type thing, there are a bunch of other caster PrC's you could build, and make effectively a psion, but a legal one.

It doesn't bother me that much, not being able to play a Psionic character (mostly because there are SO many options available as Prestige classes, and Core classes, etc.) but I still wish I could.
