Is there any way to parse the Divine Reach class ability of Hierophant so as to allow spells to be memorized with the Chain spell feat? I can't type in the full text on Chain because it is not Open Content.

Chain Spell CAr 76 You can cast spells that arc to other targets in addition to your primary target.

Divine Reach (Su)

A hierophant with this ability can use touch spells on targets up to 30 feet away. If the spell requires a melee touch attack, the hierophant must make a ranged touch attack instead. Divine reach can be selected a second time as a special ability, in which case the range increases to 60 feet.

I'm inclined to say no, but I wondered how the LG crowd would read this.

Yes, it works, actually.

Chain Spell only dictates the conditions required to "chain" a spell upon casting, not preparation.

For example, even Vampiric Touch can be prepared with Chain Spell; you just can't use it that way.

But this time around, the Heirophant's "touch" spells now qualify for Chain Spell when he casts them.

It can be interpreted as working. Many people will not allow it ...just as they won't allow Reach Spell to work with Chain.

Disallowed for RAW, or for RAI, or for game balance? I supposed some of all three. Thanks.

RAW imo. The heirophant's ability allows you to use touch spells at 30 feet, it doesn't change the range of the spell itself.

Chain spells must be targetted spells. Ie, they have a "Target" entry, not an "Effect" entry. This cuts out anything that requires a ranged touch attack, essentially.

Expect table variation. This is a source of a fair amount of debate.

FWIW, I won't allow it at my tables.
