| Platinum02-14-07, 09:01 PM | These new rules say I'm a humanoid when I'm in animal form. There are no rules that limit humanoid PCs to the items they may use. What is there to stop me from donning all my cool items AFTER I change into animal/plant form??? -Druid 14 |
| haferka02-14-07, 09:10 PM | That is a good question, the CORE rules allow animals to wear alot more than what we are being limited to. This article details the items an animal can wear: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031125a |
| Platinum02-14-07, 09:21 PM | Yes, but... I am NOT an animal! That is a good question, the CORE rules allow animals to wear alot more than what we are being limited to. This article details the items an animal can wear: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031125a |
| haferka02-14-07, 09:33 PM | Ok. Lets follow that line of thought. You are a humanoid but you are still wearing an animal "suit". Only items that fit on the animal "suit" can be equiped. Find the items on the item slots on the list i liked to above, which are also slots for your normal humanoid form. That should give you a COMPLETE list of the item slots you can use in animal form. You will need the assistance of a humanoid to equip many of those slot items. "Horses don't put saddles on themselves." |
| Eric Anondson02-14-07, 09:34 PM | Clearly, there are no amimals in the game, so your character couldn't be one unless that was its name. What would stop an animal or plant from donning gear? Lack of opposable thumbs? :rimshot: |
| clannagh02-14-07, 10:10 PM | so when a PC wildshapes to an animal the same size as the original PC .. animal growth does not work .. but enlarge person does ?? interesting |
| King Kashue02-14-07, 11:51 PM | so when a PC wildshapes to an animal the same size as the original PC .. animal growth does not work .. but enlarge person does ?? interesting Only if the PC hasn't already changed size... Druid in medium size form + enlarge person = large form Druid in large (or larger) form + enlarge person = nada |
| magebeast02-15-07, 12:11 AM | Only if the PC hasn't already changed size... Druid in medium size form + enlarge person = large form Druid in large (or larger) form + enlarge person = nada Actually as per the current LGCS this is not true. Wild Shape is NOT a spell, and the LGCS simply states that spells that attempt to increase size don't stack. So a bear that has wildshaped could indeed be affected by enlarge person. |

So a bear that has wildshaped could indeed be affected by enlarge person. It's not an LGCS issue, it's a PHB spell text issue :D PHB p. 227 "Multiple magical effects that increase size do not stack" It's not just spells, but magical effects, which includes spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities (which is what Druid wildshape is). DMG p. 289 "Supernatural Abilities are magical, but not spell-like." Which is, of course, why they're suppressed in an anti-magic field. yea, and my halfling druid is going to (ab)use this loop hole to show how silly the "errata" is :P especially since every arcane caster now can buy "wands of enlarge person" with core access ;) and pleaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssseeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeee dear circle members, don't come up with another "house rule" to fix this loop hole, you decided to go with the WotC errata so go with it - the whole way. ciao martin m. As I noted, they don't need a house rule to keep you from doing it...Just the PHB and the DMG :P |
| Mortepierre02-15-07, 02:01 AM | The fact that a wildshaped druid is still considered humanoid isn't silly but people never stop to think about the reason. All they can think of is "all those cool animal-enhancing spells won't work on me now!". What they forget is that "all those bloody annoying animal-influencing spells won't work on you either". Unless you don't mind being affected by stuff like: charm animal, hide from animals, hold animal, and/or dominate animal? Granted, druids aren't often encountered as opponents in LG mods (depending on the region..) but evil rangers are plentiful... |

The flip side of that is you are still VULNERABLE to all the humanoid targeting spells, charm/dominate person... |
| Arvagor02-15-07, 03:16 AM | The flip side of that is you are still VULNERABLE to all the humanoid targeting spells, charm/dominate person...Which you should be -- if it's a humanoid psyche in an animal body, there's no reason why it shouldn't be affected by spells that affect humanoid psyches... |
| Lupo02-15-07, 04:44 AM | Which you should be -- if it's a humanoid psyche in an animal body, there's no reason why it shouldn't be affected by spells that affect humanoid psyches... ok, i deserve it, no stacking of supernatural and spell efects. that comes from not checking the books :( now comes the funny part, when you wildshape into a plant, are you vulnerable to sneak attacks or not????? ciao martin m. |
| Mortepierre02-15-07, 05:04 AM | The flip side of that is you are still VULNERABLE to all the humanoid targeting spells, charm/dominate person... Yes, but they are usually of higher level (dominate animal is 3rd while dominate person is 5th) so it will take a much more powerful caster to affect you. |

Could one then theoretically get an Enlarge person cast on them and then Wildshape into a small or Tiny size creature, but retain his Enlarge Person'd size? This wouldn't be extremely beneficial, but it would be funny seeing a Large sized housecat, lol. |

However you could change into something tiny and THEN get enlarged afterwards to be a larger version of whatever it is.... |
| Timlagor02-15-07, 08:18 PM | It doesn't matter what order effects appear in D&D. You would be an enlarged animal: the housecat would therefore be medium (..unless they are usualy tiny in which case you would end up small). |

| Arvagor02-15-07, 09:58 PM | now comes the funny part, when you wildshape into a plant, are you vulnerable to sneak attacks or not?????Despite all the plant creatures I looked at having "plant traits" under their Special Qualities entry, you do not gain a creature's special qualities when you wildshape (via alternate form); so you don't gain the plant creature's immunity to critical hits (therefore leaving you vulnerable to sneak attack). |
| Mortepierre02-16-07, 08:04 AM | .. which is ok because any rogue worth its salt will know better than to try to sneak-attack a plant and, thus, will likely forget to use that option in combat with you ;) |
