clannagh 08-30-06, 01:24 AM	Several members of our group are using improved familiars. There is some disagreement over the LGCS ruling concerning use of improved familiars from the DMG. Basically we need to know whether in LG a DMG improved familiar: 1) must be chosen only from the first table (the one with pseudodragons) 2) can come from either the above table or also the table below (the one with ice mephits) or 3)can take advantage of the rule allowing the choice of any MM creature of similar size etc as per the DMG Further query, the sample familiars listed in the DMG conflict with the Monster Manual (and in some caes the stats do not "add up" for the DMG version) which core book takes precedence or can you choose.
Iswald 09-09-06, 09:46 AM	You should be able to take familiars from the top list or from the list in Complete Warrior without AR access. Familiars from the bottom list require types or subtypes not generally available to PCs, so they wouldn't be able to select from that list normally. Random creatures would not be allowed. The stats from the DMG should probably be used for familiars from there. Familiars from Complete Warrior should use stats from the MM.
